Getting Married in Turks and Caicos

I was so happy to see some information already presented in regards to this topic. I am from NJ and will be getting married in one month in T & C. I contacted my local registrar and she said that our marriage would not be recognized in the US-of course I panicked!  I filled out all of the necessary paperwork to obtain the marriage certification in T & C and sent all legal documents-there were no problems on that side.   I am now confused as to what to do.  If anyone has gone through this, please let me know if you filled out an application for your marriage license prior to departing for you wedding or if you waited until you got back and brought the documentation with you to your local registrar.  Also, I read that it takes 6-8 weeks to receive your marriage license from T & C.

Frazzled Bride to be :)

Thanks everyone!!

I just got married a few weeks ago in T&C, but I was told by our planner that the marriage was recognized in the US.  We are still waiting on paperwork but she said there's something we need to file in the US once we get everything from her.  Not super helpful but I wanted to chime in with what I was told.

It is my understanding that the marriage is still legal and recognized in the US.  Even though you don't have the official marriage license, they should have given you an unofficial copy with some sort of raised stamp. I believe that you can use that to change your driver's license and social security card. That's what really matters, so I wouldn't worry too much about what one person says at the state office. I had friends get married in other countries, come back to the NJ/NY area and go through the rest of the process as if they were married here without any issues. Good luck, I'm not going to sweat it too much. There's too much other wedding "stuff" to stress over!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
