Who else is up next?? How are you girls holding up?

Not even one week now! (til we leave anyway, a little over a week until the day of the wedding).

I am doing a lot better this week.  We got a lot of little things wrapped up, and packing is 95% finished.  Huge relief to have that done.  I just can't wait to be on that plane down to Mexico with my soon-to-be husband!  (Hope the weather forecast improves for the Mayan Riviera - right now lots of rain for the week we are there! :( )

Don't fret too much about the weather! I've lived here for two years and it is almost always wrong. It has been sunny here for three days now, with just a little bit of rain at night that only last for about 20 minutes.

For example, right now it says it is mostly cloudy but I don't see a cloud anywhere. Here's a webcam, where you can see what the weather actually is: http://www.webcams.travel/webcam/1306626123-Weather-Playa-del-Carmen-Playacar-Palace-Beach-Playa-del-Carmen

I think there's a few different webcams on there for different areas along the coast.

Dina - 95% packed rocks!!! I'm so excited for you! MrsHK - For a wedding in late May/June, with a sunset time of 7:25pm, and wanting no pictures in the actual beach (don't want to get on the sand with my dress), do you recommend a 5 pm or 6 pm ceremony time? My ceremony will likely be in the chapel at the Moon Palace (about 30 mins long).

It depends, will you be doing photos with you fiancé (husband!) before the ceremony with a first look, or after? Or family photos? How long do you want natural light following your ceremony?

We were married on May 22nd on the beach in Tulum (same coast but 2 hours south of the Moon Palace). We did our first look and photos with just the two of us from 2pm-4pm, then had our ceremony at 5pm, leaving an hour in between first look photos and the ceremony to eat something and freshen up. Following the 5pm ceremony we did about 20 mins of traditional family photos, and then joined our friends for the last half of cocktail hour. The light started to fade behind the jungle around 6:30, and it was dark by 7pm I think.

Keep in mind the sun doesn't set over the ocean here, since we face east on this coast. Sometimes the sky will light up with nice colours, but not as strong as a west coast sunset. The light fades a bit earlier than sunset since it disappears behind the trees, as opposed to the ocean.

Hope that helps!

This was our timeline we included in our Welcome Booklet:

MrsHK, Yes, I noticed when I was there a couple of weeks ago, that even though sunset was at 5:25, at 4:45 it was already quite dark. I guess the safe thing to do would be 5 pm. I think even the mood changes as sunset arrives (in a good way) and wanted the ceremony in a glass chapel overlooking the ocean to have that element. But pictures are extremely important to me. And I also don't want to do a first look!

Hi Jenny,

We are flying out of Toronto, but aren't flying down direct... layover in Ottawa, and I just found out that our flights were changed.... :(  Only by an hour though, so not a big deal.

I had to pack early.  My FI lives in another city and in order to pack to ensure we had everything I had to start at least two weeks early - last weekend.  This weekend when he visited he brought everything for the final list!  Everything is either in our suitcase or carry on, save for a few final items!

MrsHK - thanks for the update on the weather.  The forecast has been predicting 90%POP all week, so it's good to hear that isn't the case.  Looks hot though!  Can't wait!

Off to pick up my dress from the seamstress!!!

Sounds like 5pm would work for you! The light changes earlier than you think, as you mentioned. Thanks for the kind words about the timeline! My husband made it, although he found the little images online. He did all of our paper or design things, like menus, welcome booklets, wedding website etc. He does graphic design and web work as part of his job, so he was a great help with that stuff. One of the many reasons I'm lucky to have him!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
