I had the EXACT same thing through PPC! Just another thing I've run into..... I did fight it ....in order to point out that I didn't have to pay the fee PPC was asking, I said that there was nothing in writing that stated that they had to book the pastor for the ceremonies...and it's true they don't have any documentation to support this "new rule". I eventually got mine dropped and they reported that they "would so graciously" grandfather me into the old rule of brides booking their own pastors and not getting charged for it. So total, I pay pastor york $350 the day of the wedding, and I pay PPC $120. you are right- it is ridiculous.

FIGHT IT!

After I made contact with Pastor Rick I just told PPC we would no longer need them to find an officiant for us and I told Pastor Rick I would deal with him directly.

My wedding isn't until January and I just figured I'd just get him the day pass when I was down there.  No way I am giving them $638.

Hi Everyone,

I'm getting married at the PPC in October of 2013 and I have heard of Pastor Yorks name all over this site.  I would be an idiot not to see if I can book him for my wedding. Technically, I would be married by the wedding in Punta Cana, but I want a religious ceremony as I would in any church here in the states.  And, I would really like it to be in English since most of the guests speak English.

Can someone please send me his website and or email address. Seems like I have to work quick since he books up fast!

Thank you so much.  I'm new to this site, and it's such a fantastic help!!!!

Tisha!

Thank you for that info on Pastor York!  I actually contacted him and he won't be available for my wedding date of 10.12.13, but he told me that hs assistant would do the ceremony for me.  I'm about to leave my deposit for the Paradises so I just want to make sure of a few things before I leave my deposit.  I'm choosing the Aqua package...so I want to 1- make sure that I can bring my own Pastor and just pay the additional fee and 2) I can also bring my own photographer.  If not, I may be forced to look elsewhere...and that's gonna really suck because I love PPC. sad.gif

Hi, I'm getting married next month also at Paradisus Punta Cana so I hope some of my findings can help you.    If you hire Pastor York or his assistant on your own you will need to pay whatever fee he charges PLUS the vendor pass fee they resort charges of $120 + 16% tax.  If you hire him thru the Miami office their fee will be a bit higher but it will include the pass.  I chose to just hire him thru the Miami office because I wanted to be sure if there was any fallout - i.e. last minute cancellation on the Pastor's end, etc. I would not be left scrambling and they would be responsible for finding someone else.  It was about a $45 difference and I was okay with that for my piece of mind.  He also isn't available for my Nov. 9th wedding, NOR is his assistant, so we had to hire a totally different pastor (which he referred us to) that only speaks Spanish.  LOL.  It's not a big deal for us because my family only speaks Spanish anyway, while my FI's family only speaks English, but one of the Paradisus WC's will translate the ceremony in English.  Totally fine, as Pastor York would've done the ceremony in both languages anyway (he's bilingual).

Regarding your photographer, you can bring in your own photographer and if you book him a room you won't have to pay the expensive external vendor fee.  If you don't book your photographer a room, you will be forced to pay the external vendor fee.  I can't remember what exactly it is but I want to say its something like $1,000?  double check with the resort on it, but it's pretty high.  Otherwise, if you don't want to do either, than you will need to use their preferred photographer which is onsite - Arrecife Photography.  They have a Facbeook page and you can check out their work.  I personally did not like their style of work so I've hired HDC Photography, and will be paying $120 per person for external vendor fee (total $240 b/c of photographer AND videographer).  But, my fee is lower than what you would pay because I booked my wedding in 2011 and was grandfathered into their rates at that time.

Good luck!

We hired pastor Rick york directly I feel quite comfortable that he will be there for the day of our wedding- I haven't seen one bad reference on here on his behave. His fee is rally reasonable and the vendor pass for the day at our resort is also ok. I did contact the Miami office ahead of time as they do say no outside vendors but they ok'd it and I'm in the clear :)

Has anyone who has used pastor York (or another pastor) invited him to the reception itself?

Just trying to figure out what the right etiquette  is here?

Is it expected he has dinner?  Does he just leave after?

We booked him outside the Miami office for Paradisus Punta Cana

We see never, that Rick stay together with the couple @ the Reception.
Normal he leave just right after the ceremony, some times he has more than one wedding per day. ;)

But why not just ask him =) he does a great job by the way..msnwink.gif

I know that PPC ok's Pastor York because they use him as well. I don't think they consider him and "outside vendor".  I think they still charge the outside vendor fee although, but i think it's only $30 dollars or something....well, that's what they quoted me.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
