Time limit of AHR

Recommended Posts

Hello Fellow DW brides, My fiance and I are having a destination wedding in Key West, FL in March of 2013. Its going to be closest family and friends. We are planning to have an AHR when we return to Michigan. We have heard to do it sooner rather than later but my FI parents live in Florida and Tennessee so we would like to give them a rest between traveling for the ceremony and traveling for the reception. How long is too long to wait for the reception. Would July still be ok?

We got married on May 8 and our AHR was May 26 (Memorial Day weekend). Pros to this, we got all wedding events finished by the end of the month and it was a huge relief to be finished. But we were also making sure final deposits were in as we were traveling to our honeymoon and when we got back. We did a cookout reception. They wore casual clothes and we wore our wedding clothes the whole time (wasn't planned that way) but people had a great time.

I say have it closer rather than farther away from the time. By that time you will just want to be married and enjoy your life and not want to worry about accomadating others.

Sooner rather then later is probably best. We will be having two (one in his hometown and one in mine...they are 8 hours apart, and that was a big reason we choose to have a destination wedding), both will be very casual. I'd say 4-6 months out would be the maximum wait period, anything longer and it would seem a little off...but I don't know what the etiquete actually is.

It depends on your photographer, our photographer said our photos would be ready before we leave the Dominican republic.

We had our AHR a week after our wedding. We didn't have any of our pro pictures to show at the reception, but we made a slideshow of some non pro pictures to show our guests during dinner. I'd say have the AHR sooner rather than later. I can't tell you how relieved we were that we were finally back to normal and don't have to deal with our wedding anymore!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
