To Veil or not to Veil?

I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not I want to wear a veil in our wedding.  Here is a picture of the dress.  

 

Did any other brides have a hard time making this decision?  Did you wear a veil to your wedding?  Would a veil look weird since my hair is short?  I've never even tried one on...

I had been going back and forth on veil or no veil as well but once when I was trying on a dress and had one put on I felt like a total bride and decided yup I needed a veil, even if I only wear it for the ceremony and pictures!

 

You could always do a fingertip length veil and then it wouldn't take anything away from or cover up the ruffle detail on the bottom of the dress.

 

As for hair, I have medium/long hair so I don't have suggestions for hair but I did just google "short hair with a veil" and google images comes up with many different options, I think any length of hair can still look fantastic with a veil!

You could do a birdcage veil, or even a fingertip - it wouldn't hide the layers of your dress. how are you planning to wear your hair on the day-of? You could do something like a half-up style, so it crosses in the back, and then put the veil comb in there.

 

the most important thing is to try on veils WITH your dress. it does change what you think may or may not work.

 

and you can always decide to go with a flower instead of a veil (or even in addition to).

 

I'm going with a veil - I've always wanted to wear one. I also want the pictures with the veil flying in the wind. I'm still trying to decide fingertip or longer - I really want longer, though the fingertip looked great with the gown.

I agree that you need to go try some on. I'm not planning on wearing a veil. I always thought I would want one but while trying on dresses the salesperson put one on me and I burst out laughing, I looked ridiculous! My sister thought it looked great, but I couldnt wait to take it off! I'm going to go with a simple flower in my hair.

I was completely opposite..I went in with not wanting a veil. My mom insisted I try one on with the dress I ending up falling in love with and she was right..it looks great. I will only wear it for the ceremony and some pictures though, then I'll switch to a simple hair flower.

My dress has a similar shape to yours with asymmetrical ruffles and a sweep length train but is a mermaid fit. I thought I didn't want a veil but tried it one with a fingertip length and loved it. I thought that's the longest length I could do since I'm not getting married in a church and I'm not that young either (I'm 33). But more recently I've decided you know what? I plan on only getting married once, I've waited this long so eff it...I'm doing it big and am getting a chapel length veil! Just 1 layer, no beading. I have longer hair so I'm wearing my hair in a side ponytail with a flower tucked in as well. After ceremony and pics I'll remove the veil and just keep the flower in. Good luck!

I was really torn between wearing a veil and not wearing a veil.  My mom kept telling me it would be the only time I would be able to wear a veil.  In the end I opted not to wear a veil (I had one and even took it with me just in case I changed my mind).  It was really really windy at the gazebo by the ocean where I was married so in the end I didnt wear it due to the wind.  It would have been flapping all over the place and probably woudln't have stayed in.   Instead I had just a simple white hair flower.  I think if you want a veil go for it.

I wasnt sure if I wanted a veil either and I certainly did not want to spend money on a veil and then feel pressured to wear it, so my grandmother actually made my veil for under $10 and I LOVED it a lot more than any I tried on in the store. I ended up wearing mine for pictures away from the beach and walked down the isle in it. But it got so windy that it kept hitting my husband in the face, so my MOH leaned in and whispered "I think it's time to lose the veil"! HAHA so i subtly leaned back and she luckily got the comb out with a little tug. After the fact, I am glad that I have quite a few pics with me in my dress and the veil so thats always an option too.

I have decided not to wear a veil. I have no real excitement about wearing one and the fact that it's the only time I get to do it, doesn't really matter to me. I'm much more excited to wear my hair up in kind of a messy updo, with a flower on the side. I think that will complement the beach wedding perfectly. I know most brides do wear one, and I think they are absolutely beautiful on some women, it just wasn't something I wanted to do.

I have been wondering about veils ever since we got engaged.....I think it will really come down to trying one on with the dress and seeing how it looks!
