What to register for... and where??...

As my Fiance and I were running this morning, we were wondering what in the world we should register for and where we should register at...

 

I have my own house that I have lived in for over 3 years, so I pretty much have everything to fill our house once we live together in our new one. My fiance has also been out on his own for a while now and has a lot of things on his own..

 

Does anyone else also fall into this category? If so, what are you registering for and where at?

 

One of my pet-pevs.. I hate to ask for money so we refuse to ask for that from anyone. If that's what people would like to give us, then that's okay, but we would like people to have options of buying us items they can choose from and know we will need or want. Plus I want us to be able to go to a store or two and scan all kinds of goodies together. )

I have lived on my own since I was 18 years old (I'm 30 now) my fiance and I already live together and have lots of things however our things are mismatched and are mostly hand me downs. We went for new dishes, silverware, glasses,etc....If you go to a place like Bed Bath and Beyond they actually give you a list or template of things you may ask for. Many people that cannot afford to travel for your wedding still may want to give you a little something so it doesn't hurt to go to the store and put together a "wish list" of sorts. There are so many new kitchen gadgets and different things out there I'm sure you can come up with a few things. Plus the people there really help you out...Who doesn't need some new towels?

As far as kitchen stuff I myself probably have enough kitchen things for two kitchens but we were thinking pots and pans are always a great investment, but I know they get pricey. (  But I love to cook, so new kitchen gadgets are always great!!

 

I think we will def opt-in for Bed, Bath and Beyond.  They always seem to have neat things and stuff we could always use, plus you can't beat those 20% off coupons every month. )

 

We were thinking Lowe's or Home Depot.. But then again I don't really know if you can register for things there.. Was just a thought since with having your own home it seems like a trip to Lowe's is always needed.

 

We just bought a grille and I have a lawnmower, weedeater and all the outdoor necessities.. One great thing about already having an established house, huh?! ) 

 

My Fiance and I live in different states but once we get married we will be getting a house in Georgia where he lives.

Think of household items that you could upgrade. A high powered blender, a big stand mixer, nice china, new flatware, new drink ware, new vacuum cleaner - stuff like that is great. You could also register at Target - they have a huge variety of items that aren't necessarily kitchen & bath related.

 

One thing to keep in mind is that most stores will give you a "completer discount" on things that you register for but aren't purchased. So while yes, I registered for that monster $300 mixer, I don't expect anyone else to buy it for me. But with the gift cards/cash I get, I can snatch it up with my completer discount after the wedding. 

 

You can also register for people to pay for excursions for you guys on your honeymoon. It's not exactly like asking for cash - it's asking for experiences. That is, if you want to do excursions on your honeymoon! 

 

Another option is to ask for donations to your favorite charities in lieu of gifts.

We are in a similar situation. We live together and at first wasn't sure what we would register for. But towels, sheets, glassware, new dinnerware, and pots and pans are what we came up with too! Several people gave me suggestions but I don't feel comfortable registering for my honeymoon! A down payment on a house fund is a cute idea but I don't feel comfortable since guests will be incurring quite an expense to travel for our wedding. Actually I was also considering stating on invitation that your presence is your gift for those that attend the wedding! Some friends were yelling at me! What do u ladies think about this?

 Thanks for the suggestions!.. We just went to Bed, Bath and Beyond after dinner and came up with about 10 things we could put on our registry.. Sad I know!.. We just both purchased new vacuums and dinner/flat/drinkware.. So we now have 2 sets of everything.

About the presence being the best gift.. I totally agree!!  Why were they yelling at you about this?  Because you want to put it or because your not mentioning registries?

 

We wont put our registries on out invites.. maybe just our wedding website once we get closer to our AHR date. I'm a 3rd way done with our Save the Date list and were already at 75 families which is about 180 persons.. We seem to have a rather large family, well more my fiance. And we are only expecting about 30 to come to our DW and everyone that can't make it are telling us they wouldn't miss the AHR, but we all know how things can change with people. I wish people would save their money and just be present to either event, that's def the best gift to us!!

I like myregistry.com. You can register any items from any website. It's like a central place for all your favorite items and you don't have to be stuck with one store.

We aren't including registry info in our invites at all - I've been told by wedding gurus that it's a big no-no. I included it on our website (and our invites do have an insert with our website on it), but also said that for those going with us to Mexico, their presence is all we need.

Actually they were yelling at me in regards to a wedding gift at the reception.  A lot of friends told me not to expect a gift but if someone gives an envelope then you just accept it.  As far as the bridal shower, my mom is insisiting on throwing me one, especially since many people will not attend a destination wedding.  I was okay with that, but kind of feel like we shouldn't accept an envelope at the reception.  If someone spends that amount of money to attend the wedding, I definitely think that this is their gift to us.
