Hey girls!

What flavor would you say was the best for cake? (vanilla, chocolate, pineapple, coconut, strawberry)

Working with my wedding cordinator picking out stuff for our package we are going with.  Also what instrument  did you think sounded best between the flute, saxophone, keyboard, or violin?

Thanks!

You're at an all-inclusive, right?  Here's what we found with our cake...we ordered one tier vanilla, one tier strawberry and one tier chocolate.  The chocolate tier was missing altogether, which my new husband was somewhat disappointed about as that's his favourite flavour.  The strawberry tier was identical to the vanilla tier, except the middle filling had some chopped fresh strawberries in it.  Our cake basically tasted identical to a lot of the dessert options at the buffets...if I had to do it all over again, I would ask for something completely different than what is accessible at lunch and dinner meals at the buffets...I guess otherwise they do what they do best and stick with it.  Also, if you plan on serving a dessert in addition to wedding cake, give some consideration to offering a variety (i.e., if the resort will be serving your guests a brownie with ice cream for dessert, you may want to pick a wedding cake flavour other than chocolate).

That being said, I LOVE the idea of a small two-tier cake with one coconut layer and one pineapple layer...just like a pina colada...YUM!!!

Music-wise, you can't go wrong with the violin if you want a very traditional feel to your wedding.  Personally, that's what I would pick.  Good luck...sounds like you have lots of great options! : )

If you want choose the mexican traditional cake you must choose the tres leches cake.

I had this cake for my wedding, it's white, soft and light.

Sadly, that was part of the issue at our resort...tres leches cake was readily available as a dessert at the lunch and dinner buffets...so by the time we had it as a wedding cake, it was not a unique flavour anymore.  The same white cake appeared as a tres leches, with broiled meringue on top, or with a light whipped topping over and over again.  Just something you might want to ask about...

Different tier with different flavors sounds great! I agree with another bride that you should check with the resort so your cake is different from what it's already at the buffet tables.

Ask the possibility to your wedding coordinator.

In my resort, tres leches, vanilla and chocholate caked were included in the wedding menu , any extra request would be analyze and had an extra price.

You don't mean to say that they serve that cake at the resort on a regular day at a regular old buffet??!

Do you guys know if the food served at the resort is different from the food offered for the wedding menu?

Ummm...in our case, yep!  It was in a much prettier package, but it still tasted pretty much the same! ; )

I've seen lots of pics of wedding cakes on BDW that look a LOT like ours did...but I've also heard some participants tell of some amazing unique/custom flavours they had.  Like I said, it is worth it to ask lots of questions...if that is important to you (that the flavours of your cake with be completely unique to the flavours of any sort of dessert served at the buffets on a daily basis), tell them so and pick the WPs brain about what else their team could do for you.

We made up for it with our AHR cake though...it was divine!!! : )

Yes, Silver and Gold menu food are different from other food served in the resort except for the private dinner on the beach.

I have had a private dinner on the beach, only 2 of us, and the main course was one of the main course of the wedding menus (Surf and turf plate)

Thanks Cri Cri, I keep worrying the food at the wedding (that we pay extra for) won't seem different or special from what they can eat in the restaurants or buffet.  Is there a buffet at this resort other than for breakfast?

We would like to do the private dinner for 2 as well.  would you recommend it?  What did you think of the surf and turf?  Did you do any type of rehearsal dinner with your guests?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
