Hi ladies,

I got married there at the end of April. I used DJ Doremixx (although Ivan/Doremixx himself was booked, so it was another DJ from within his company), I paid the $250 electricity fee and I was still able to save $ by using Doremixx. He also includes lighting, balloons, etc. so you get some extra's with him that the resort DJ doesn't provide. I couldn't find ANY info on the resort DJ so I was too nervous to use them. I made a big playlist in a word doc and sent it to the DJ a few weeks before the wedding - they played only songs that were on my playlist (they have a TON of music) so we were really happy with the DJ.

I used Styling Trio for my make-up and Adrian did a great job, I was really happy with it, and he is SO nice too, and speaks perfect English (I have heard the spa/salon does a good job, but they do not speak English well at all so sometimes it is hard to communicate what you want). If you are using the resort salon/spa I would recommend bringing pictures of exactly what you want. Adrian has a condo around the corner from the resort which is an option to not pay a vendor fee, but I just told Dulce (my 3 month out WC) that I had already put a deposit down with him and it was very important for me time-wise to not have to leave the resort, and I did not have to pay a fee.

I also used an outside florist and did not have to pay a fee (Laura from Premium Flores). Get it in writing if they agree to not charge an outside vendor fee.

Good luck!

I am soo happy I came across this forum! I am getting married November 25, 2013 and I desperately need some advice about using outside vendors vs. the vendors the resort provides. I have heard good things about DJ Doremixx- but my W/C Dulce is saying it will cost $500 plus another $250 to bring in an outside DJ, is that true?

And flowers, should i go with the resort flowers or should i hire an outside florist? Will PP charge me a fee for buying my flowers from the outside?

Has anyone gotten their hair and make-up done at the PP Salon/Spa? I compared the PP salon prices to The Styling Trio (which i have heard GREAT things and they do airbrush make-up) and it comes out to be about the same. I'm just not sure who to go with and not sure if the resort will charge for bringing in a day guest? Is there a way to get around that?

And lastly, photographer and videographer- Does anyone recommend an amazzzing photographer and videographer that is decently priced?

Any advice/help would be soooo appreciated :)

Hi Fareda! I'm from Vancouver, Canada and I live down here in Playa Del Carmen. I have a friend who does wedding photography, she is very reasonably priced and her photos are stunning! Her name is Susana Hidalgo and her website is http://www.myadorablebridal.com/

Here's a couple of photos she took at our wedding, although she wasn't our primary photographer. She was a guest at the wedding and took some photos during the cocktail hour and reception. That's her little girl I'm holding, and she was our flower girl! :)

Mrs. HK you looked great! I hope all the decor worked out :) If I can figure how to upload pics on here I can share a few of mine haha!

Fareda, I used DJ Doremixx, I had to pay a $250 fee for electricity, but I was not charged an outside vendor fee. You just have to push them about those fees. Ivan (Doremixx) himself was already booked so it was another DJ I had through the company, he did a great job. I made a big playlist in a word doc and gave it to them a few weeks in advance, and he only played music from my list so me and all the guests were very happy.

I also used Styling Trio for my make-up (and all my bridesmaids) and they were amazing. Adrian has a condo nearby that you can get it done at to avoid the fees, but I told the resort that I already gave him a deposit and I didn't want to worry about having to leave the resort, and said he would come in do my make-up then leave right after, and they allowed it with no fee.

I also used an outside florist (Laura from Premium Flores) and again told them I already gave her a deposit, so they let her come to set up no problem.

I did buy a lot of decor through their company Zuniga, so maybe that helped me to swing no outside vendor fees.

I figured out how to add the photos lol! I brought my photographer with me from Toronto, but if I had to choose one in Mexico it would have been Elizabeth Medina (she is sooo expensive tho).. Del Sol looks really good too.

MrsHK and Alanak,

Such beautiful pictures! I am betting so excited! Only 31/2 months away!

Have any of the other brides used Ocean Photo Studio? I was comparing all the prices and they seem to be the most reasobly priced. Has anyone used them and loved their work? Are they easy to work with? Obviously, pictures are so important and i want them to be stunning, but we are also on a budget =/

Any help or advice would be much appreciated! :)

I am getting my makeup and Hair done by styling Trio at his condo around the corner...he will work within your budget :) I have had great communication with i aback and forth , he is very prompt.

I am using DJ Doremixx who is also working within my budget....I found out today my WC has been changed form Dulce to Alejandra yet I have not heard from either I am getting super annoyed with that but will use their shortcomings to my advantage for pushing no vendor fees etc.

I am getting married Nov 18th, 2013 on the beach with a reception on the beach as well afterwards, I am going to use Cherry Blossom Photography, they are great.

I ordered thank you magnets from Etsy for our favours as well, and got some beautiful peacock napkins to bring as well.

I have not seen Zuningas inventory yet......still waiting :( Have you seen the proces for them? Any other info you can share that you received from Dulce?

I think we are good on the videos :) I'm using Sascha Gluck for photos... I really loved Ivan luckie too. Both are affordable and only require a day pass! I'm using cinematic riviera maya for video! Not much more than the resort video and I'm sure way better. Send me your email and I can send the info for Zuniga! Less than 2 weeks to go, can't believe the wedding is so soon!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
