Anyone on here aware of there is any 'green space' at the resort?  It looks like a beautiful spot, and i love the idea of a private wedding on the terrace.  However, i'd like options to have photos done around greenery and foliage as well as the beach.  Thanks

Hi Travelbugg,

This green space is located just a few steps away from the hotel. It's a great area for cool pictures and even has a few mayan ruins. Check out these images:

Hello everyone! I've been planning my destination wedding since June and have just recently chosen to have my wedding at Playacar Palace in June. I've spent countless hours pouring over the various forums before deciding on PP, and I've received many great ideas from the women on the site. Do any of you guys know if the hotel is finished with their updates/ renovations?

I also am torn between Playacar Palace & Moon Palace. I think we are going to go towards Playacar Palace because of the location to 5th ave (right outside the resort) and the fact that Cozumel is just a short ferry ride away. That way guests have other things to do offsite. We went on vacation to Sun Palace in April 2010 and had an amazing time! We actually saw a wedding on the beach there and it planted the seed to us having a destination wedding ourselves.

The best part is that Palace resorts let you visit their sister resorts for free for the day. From what i've been reading, Moon Palace is more like its own little community so there is no need to leave the resort. I have also heard that they have several weddings a day there (not sure how they are spread out or timed) and I personally want something a little smaller and more intimate. Plus, Playacar Palace has one of the best beaches in the area (or so I've been told). Moon Palace has a more rocky beach and that is a big deal breaker for me.

I'm getting married (somewhere) in Mexico over labor day weekend 2013!  I went to both Playacar Palace and Moon Palace over labor day weekend (2012) and reallllllly didn't like Moon Palace.  It was SO huge and full of drink people and never ending winding pools.  Playacar just has the one pool and is a lot more centralized and calmer, and significantly smaller (Moon has almost 2500 rooms whereas Playacar has around 220).   I went to Cozumel Palace as well and absolutely adored it!  It's gorgeous, new feeling, and just perfect.  Only problem is that all my guests would have to connect to get to Cozumel when they can fly direct to Cancun airport.

Playacar was still doing a lot of renovations when we were there last month!  They said at the hotel it would be done in November but that seems to be incredibly close if they're really going to add pool space with swim up rooms AND finish the spa.  That's the thing making me nervous- I'd hate to go if the pool was being torn up since it's the central part of the hotel!  Anyone have a better sense of when they'll be done for sure?

Also, has anyone stayed at the Royal Cancun?  That's the other hotel I'm considering besides Playacar Palace!!

I am getting married in 3 weeks at Playacar Palace. I will let you know when I get back, when things will be done, as far as construction..(or get as much info about this as I can!)

Anyone need specific info or pics let me know, I can scope out..!

The only struggle I still have (cutting it down to the wire) is, Should I get a DJ? I have one lined up and have to pay the deposit in the next few days, he is the prefered vendor for PP

JSAV...Very costly for what he offers, this is my dilema...I am bringing in a few buckets of callalillies to wrap myself from a local florist stop for my bridesmaids and bouts and put a bunch in vases from the local store. Saves me a few hundred, So I may use that savings to just go ahead and do the DJ.

I have found that its really not "cheaper" to do a destination wedding than doing a semi-DIY back home...so if anyone things its less money or hassle, its not seeming that way to me, at least.

I am using Cecilia Dumas for my photographer, her website speaks for itself. Can't wait!!

Any information you can share Genie would be excellent!

What made you pick playacar palace? Are you using the Colin Cowie packages or are you doing your own thing? I also am on the fence about using a DJ but if our guest lists gets bigger, I think i am going to go for it- the more people you have the more they want to dance :) Were there any other photographers you looked at before deciding on Cecilia Dumas?

I love that you are doing your own flowers! I think thats a great way to save $$ and you know exactly what you are getting.

Enjoy these last few days and have a wonderful wedding! Congrats!

Hi DW Bride 2014

Thank you we are so excited!!

I picked Playacar Palace because of the location (close to lots of things but out of the hussle bussle of Cancun (party alley)), its size, its practically 5 star ambiance (people are coming from afar and I want them to get the best experience they can for their $)..Also the reviews are spectacular.

I picked Cecilia because she is so super nice and accomodating and has a great portfolio that her photos are like a sequence of a love story and not just

"ok, now you pose with your arm this way and his arm this way and look to the left, then to the right"...it natural and beautiful and she didnt nickle and dime me "per hour" it was all about getting the day captured. Be aware of the day pass for a photog if you bring them in its $91 for them plus $91 for any additional assistant..not too bad.

Colin Cowie was such a toss up for me because while its awesome and includes a lot, its not sooo much more stuff than the complimentary but its $3500 for some runners and chair covers and beads, I ordered paper lanterns in various sizes in my colors online for $1 each (to hang from chuppah), and runners, chair sashes from Tableclothfactory.com..made my own bunting for the table under the chuppah that is included with the complimentary, grabbing flowers from the flower mart down the street and vases from Walmart  (also down the street- I love how simple and clean a huge bunch of calla lillies looks with a ribbon tight around it), I am keeping it colorful and simple. People won't remember a brown chair vs a white chair, but they will remember dancing the night away so we got the DJ. Our budget is $5000 (not counting the airfair/hotel and my dress) I think we will be there!!

I am ordering the wish lanterns this week. I will let you know how they work out at the resort. I didnt ask permission because its over the ocean, so it wouldnt be a "fire hazard"

Happy Planning gals!!!

I just heard from my destinationweddings.com rep that the construction is scheduled to be complete by Dec 2012. They are bringing the spa on site (YES!) and are expanding the pool to have swim-up access rooms. All good things but unfortunate for GenieBelle :(

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
