We had my oldest brother officiate for us in Mexico last week. It was really special for him to do this for us, and I way preferred it over having a stranger.
Who is marrying you??

Lol. I think some local Mexican fella that works for the resort.

@ironman did you brother have to get a cetificate online or anything? Or he didn't need anything because you were legally married already in the US?
@vanessav53 Sorry for the late reply! He didn't need anything, as it was just a symbolic ceremony. For a legal wedding in Mexico we wouldn't have been able to use him. We're doing a legal wedding in Canada.

@ironman- Thank you! very helpful. This is perfect because we are getting legally married in the US before we come to mexico so my friend won't need to do anything. How did you like the way the symbolic ended up? Had your brother done any ceremonies before? Or was yours the first and only one?

@rvalenka my best friend from childhood is doing the ceremony for my FI and I. It is going to be perfect as she is my oldest friend and very close with my fiance also. It will be much more special than using someone at the resort and I'm fortunate that she is willing to do it for us!

I would love to have a friend perform the ceremony. Maybe I'll do the paperwork here at Town Hall and just have a symbolic ceremony in DR.
The last DW I attended was performed in Spanish and translated sentence by sentence to English by the WC. But because it was a legal ceremony and DR's official language is Spanish, the ceremony had to be done in Spanish by a Judge.
