We're doing a solo steel drummer during the ceremony and then a steel drum band for cocktail hour. That will be $350. And then we'll have a DJ for the reception. I think that's $750 ($250/hr). I was considering the iPod plan but just decided to go for it with the DJ. Hopefully he's good/sticks to our list of suggested songs!

thats a great idea. we are doing the dj as well but im going to look into solo steel drummer for the ceremony! thanks.

i'm going to ship my decorations before i get down there. there is no way i can fit all that stuff in my suitcase, especially since we will stay in jamaica about 3 weeks. but maybe you can get one of your guests to bring a second suitcase with them, that way you can just pay $25 for second suitcase (i think thats how much most airlines charge for second suitcase)

I've been wondering about shipping.  Have looked looked into how much it would cost?  I've forewarned everyone that they are going to be taking some stuff down with them!

I'm leaning more towards the DJ as well.  It would be nice to have someone directing when things happen, feel out the crowd, etc.  I'll be curious to hear how the DJ is.  So, is it $350 for both the solo steel drummer and the band?

This is what I'm afraid of. I sent one Fed-Ex envelope to the WC with our notarized docs for the legal marriage and it cost $55 to ship from California. I'm scared what a big box of decorations will cost, but I also don't want to deal with schlepping extra luggage through the airport and customs. I asked the Secrets wedding team about shipping things ahead and they said it's fine but they advise checking with DHL or Fed-Ex first. I guess some brides have had their items help up at customs and had to pay a duty for them.

Yes, $350 covers both the single steel drummer at the ceremony and the band for cocktail hour.

Wow - $55 for paper!  That's crazy!!!  Can you remind me - exactly what papers do you need to send them in advance?  How do you get your passport notarized?

- Notarized copies of the Bride & Groom birth certificate

- Notarized copies of Bride & Groom official ID ( Passports)

- Notarized copies of Divorce decrees or death certificates (if applicable

- Notarized copies of any name change documents, e.g. as Adoption papers (if applicable)

The passport notarization wasn't an issue-- they did it along with all the other docs. No questions asked!

So did you just send a copie of your passport and they notarized it?  Or do you have to do that before you send them?  I'm just curious - i know i have plenty of time :)  I just want to make sure I understand.  Thanks.

We had to get everything notarized here first and then send (you have to send it 2 months in advance) and then they send it to the minister. I'd send all the docs at the same time they reach out to you for your final choices.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
