2013 Now Larimar Brides !!! Any out there ???

Recommended Posts

Thanks so much for your feedback, I appreciate it!!  I have already emailed my travel agent and she emailed back that the place is great so I just need to get over it...even though 3 more bad reviews just popped up on trip advisor ;).  How can this place get such bad reviews???  I decided on Now for the price and the kids stay free promotion and even though you made me feel better, of course I went right to trip advisor and there are more bad reviews.

Thanks for telling me to stop reading...I think NOW I will stop, haha ;)

Kids stay free? We didn't get that promotion.... are you booking directly with the resort?

My twins stay free but that is because they are under 2

I picked this place BEFORE I knew of anyone that had been there before. I know Sarah ( coworker) went every year but I couldn't remember what resort.

I originally had the Hard Rock selected.... but they would not allow a group booking.  So I had to go back and start the process over, at the time I read a lot of great reviews and the jacuzzi in each room was a plus. Some of my guests have never been south before so I wanted to give them more than just a basic room, and I wanted a smaller resort but lots of options....
The Hard Rock had every option but it is a huge resort so it worked out better in the end. I also have since learned the water and beach is much better at Now Larimar :-)

To ease your mind... Go look at the "bad" reviews for the Majestic Elegance... that resort is beautiful and very expensive but you will still find ppl complaining of food, bad rooms..etc..

Anyone I spoke with that has been there never had a bad thing to say about it.. but there are people out there who didn't like it and will never be back.

I don't expect the staff to speak perfect English.. I know that the service will be different as that is their way. They live a relaxed lifestyle and I try to as well when on vacation.

The food.. well food is hit or miss anywhere you go. .. Weather is no ones issue..

If I don't have a remote that works... I will go to the beach and not take the time when I get home from my busy life to complain about a remote! haha

I laugh at some of these reviews... there was one I actually sent to friends it was that laughable...  Complaining because of the shampoo provided and they didn't get a shampoo upgrade.. seriously bring your own!

Yah i`d also like to also know about the kids staying free? Kids under 2 are free, but anyone over 2 has to pay pretty much the same as an adult...which i think is insane since these kids don't eat much or drink alcohol lol

Don't worry there's always going to be ppl that are going to complain, I really don't understand how ppl can complain about the buffets...We stayed at a resort in Punta Cana this year and there bascially all the same. They have a pasta station, burger hot dog and fry station and salad station. So you can't possibly tell me ppl don't eat either of those stations along with all the other stations they have there. I think people confuse American 5 star standards with Dominican 5 star standards and you can't do that.

I did the same thing reading the reviews everyday, stop, it just adds unnecessary stress to you.

I also don't have my dress yet Donna don't sweat it, you'll find the right one :)  I'm going looking this weekend, wish me luck lol...My colours are plum and lime green!! And I am also doing a Symbolic Wedding. We're getting married here first and than just doing a ceremony in Punta Cana.

I also pretty much have everything planned, food, ceremony, reception etc... Just gotta play the waiting game until September when i find out the exact numbers i'll have coming..

Does anyone know with the Devine Package if you get the Platinum menue?? I'm a little confused...

Yes, there was a promotion where kids up to 12 stay free if you're traveling before December 21.  We moved up our wedding date for the promotion even though now there are some people who can't go...let's just say this is a learning process and I'm regretting some of my decisions :)

I also heard that the beach was great.  I guess I am getting worried because our parents have high expectations as far as restaurants are concerned.  Reading about people getting sick is the worst!  And I don't know why people would expect others in a foreign country to speak English??  Spanish is their language, of course they're not going to be completely fluent in English!  Geez...;)

And who in the world complains about shampoo??

Is anyone using an outside florist?  I contacted one down there and received a very reasonable price quote, knowing that you have to pay a vendor fee.  I was thinking about doing a lot of stuff myself but have since changed my mind and decided to say screw it, I want real flowers ;).  If anyone wants the name of the florist let me know!   They do other decorations as well.

Yes, it shows on their website they are running the promotion through December 21, 2 kids up to age 12 stay free.  The quotes we have from our travel agent (Apple Vacations) for the people bringing kids just has their flight cost on it!

Good luck finding your dress! :)  I was lucky enough to find one about a month ago, it was discontinued and off the rack and like 60% off so I was lucky enough to walk out of the store with it!

I love the plum and lime green - I'm doing navy blue (midnight blue) and lime green myself!!

We're doing symbolic too but I think we'll get married back here afterwards...that way I don't run the risk of anyone finding out and freaking out that it wasn't real or something.

Oh okay that exaplins a lot if its a promo just for December...

As for ppl getting sick while they're there, you just need to be smart when making your food choices...Don't eat cheese, or deli meats (if they look like they've been sweating), don't eat creamy dressings (who knows how long they've been sitting out for). Always drink their bottled water, Pina Coladas (coconut milk is a natural laxative) so don't drink too many etc etc

Thanks, ohh that's awesome you found it on sale..one can only hope to get that lucky!!!

Your colours are also really pretty!!!

Yah some ppl are funny when it comes to knowing you got married before hand, but once I told them the cost of translating the papers it was a good decision lol

Are you trying to get a pastor or minister? I think I'm just going to get the wedding co-ordinator to do it, I'm sure they've done a ton of them and are not much different than getting a pastor or minister. Plus I don't really want to pay for the extra cost.

Have you checked if you need a marriage certificate before inorder to do a symbolic ceremony??

I'm pretty sure you don't need a certificate, it's just a "symbolic" ceremony.  I have to have someone other than the wedding coordinator do the ceremony, my family would FLIP out ;).  So we're doing a minister and I'm glad it's only $250.  My mom keeps asking me questions about the marriage legal process and I keep dodging them saying "don't worry I'll get it worked out" ;).  I really don't want anyone to know!

I'm doing the symbolic too - and also don't want anyone to know - The WC told me they will have papers there and everything to sign and that they get this a lot and no one will know its not for "real" - We are using a friend to do the ceremony!  Kind of perfect for us...

I love lime green!!  So beautiful!!    Can't wait to see some pics!

I would be interested in the florist number - What kind of prices are you paying?  Must be cheaper then the resort!

Update - Tried on some more "dresses" - by that I mean, a prom dress and some pieces of material wrapped around me...  I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and order online... And hope for the best...  Just gonna hope the dress I think is the most beautiful on a model is also the most beautiful on me!! haha

Oh, and my deadline just passed for guests - Which was AWESOME - been waiting on that forever so that I can start the SHOPPING!!  Looks like we are at just over 40 - Perfect!

Oh and Susan - Don't know if I told you - but we also booked Phil!!  Sooo excited about that!!  Thanks!

Donna- That's really cool your getting a friend to do it!!

I went to Davids Bridal yesterday and tried on about 8 or 9 dresses...Can't believe how heavy some of them are, wow!!! She tried putting me in a slip (which weighed like 5 pounds lol)  I told her I was having a DESTINATION WEDDING no extra weight please hahaha!! Found one I really love not too heavy should be okay for awayyy...Didn't buy it yet, had to sleep on it and I only went to one store so I think I'm going to go to a couple more stores just to see what's out there but I do really love the one I found lol

Aren't there any bridal stores where you live Donna?

I had 4 dresses I picked out from their website and tried them on and only 1 looked the way I wanted it too, the others had certain details you couldn't see from online but only by trying it on, so if you do buy online pay close attention to ALL detail :)

Ohh your so lucky your deadline passed...I'm getting ansy I just wanna buy everything and get it all done hahah

Goodluck with your shopping

I know EXACTLY what you mean about waiting for the deadline... Its like finding out how many people really love you!! haha Just kidding... Kind of!  I know my Christmas card list just got a bit shorter anyways!! haha

I'm in Korea at the moment, and there are dress shops... But they do it a bit differently - Like renting dresses is the most common... and in order to try these on you must sign a contract with a lot of places - which means you are with them for EVERYTHING - photos, venue, hair, flowers...   Or there are some high scale dress shops - but you have to pay to try each individual dress on - Like $20 each...  And they aren't at all like the styles I would be considering anyways... So, the only other option is to have a dress made here... Hence the draping of the fabric - But, just looking at it - looked cheap....  Options are a bit limited at the moment... But, I figure if I get something off the internet and then take it to a dress maker to have it altered... I dunno - But, I need to decide soon - 6 Months to go!

Congrats on finding your dress!!  You should post a pic!!  And the deadline will come soon enough - so save your pennies for the SHOPPING!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
