Nervous Negril Newbie!!

Hi everybody! I plan on having a small, private, ceremony with just my fiance' and I in Negril Jamaica the first week of September. I have never even been to Jamaica, so planning an "elopement" there is just nerve wrecking. I am very anxious about sending money to people in another country to secure dates, services, etc. I will l be sending less than $1000 to get everything I want so that's not bad at all, I just don't want to get there and NOTHING is what it seems or things just don't happen. I am dealing with Elegant Jamaica Weddings and Dawn seems to be pretty nice thus far. I see a few other ladies on this site who have had experiences with this company and I saw nothing negative. Most of those reviews were a couple of years ago though. I guess I just need some reassurance or to speak with some ladies who are going through something similar. This destination thing is all so sudden to me. I had already purchased a dress, centerpieces, invitations and everything for a traditional wedding, but then something dawned on me. I just REALLY DON'T WANT TO PAY $7000 (which is actually cheap!) for OTHER PEOPLE to enjoy MY wedding. I know that's selfish, but I really want to spend that kind of money on myself and my fiance to make a dream come true. I think with the economy the way it is and all, it is a new day and people are becoming more conscious with their money and traditions are changing. We will just have a big, nice party when we come back to celebrate with family and friends. I know I'm rambling guys, but any responses/advice are appreciated! :)

Hi Paradise,

Understand they way you feel. (I am Jamaican). Negril is beautiful. Where are you staying?

Just a word to other brides. If you were thinking of eloping to Jamaica (especially if you haven't been there before), a way to alleviate the stress is get married at an all-inclusive. Several hotels now offer free weddings if you stay a certain number of nights. I got married in Negril 4 years ago that way. No stress and it was beautiful and cheap! I recommend Sandals for small weddings.

Hope this helps

Lisa

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
