Bridal shower when you don't want to register??? Honeymoon registry? Advice please.

Recommended Posts

Hi there brides!!

Any advice on what to do when you don't want to register? We have lived together for 3 years already. We do not need anything and I am afraid if we register we will get a bunch of stuff we don't really want or need and then being stuck with credit at a store. So I hate to register just for the sake of doing it.

I would never ask for money blatently but it would appear I was if I don't have a registry right?? I know that anyone coming to the wedding is MORE than enough. I am contemplating a honeymoon registry but then it seems as though we are registering for a trip we are asking everyone else to come on. We are staying an additional time after our guests leave so technically we are having a honeymoon.

With that being said, I want to still have a shower mostly because there are many who are unable to come to the wedding for financial reasons and I want to be able to spend some time with them and for them to be a part of the wedding.

Any advice?

Thank you in advance!

im in the same situation,we have been leaving together for 5yrs, and we have everything. But i am having the shower, and everyone is asking me where i have registered. I think what im going to do, is do a very very small registry to freshen up some of my kithcen stuff and maybe do the honeyfund, like i said each item from BedBathandBeyond probably will be 5-10$, so maybe people who dont feel comfortable bringing a printout in the envelope for the honeyfund gift, can just attach it to a small storage container etc...this way i can still open something..

I thought of that too but I am scared people will go there and then not like what they find and just pick something on their own and then you are stuck with something you don't want or store credit. I could use some freshening of some stuff but I would really just like money, without asking for it :)

Thanks for the input!

I think friends and family will understand that you and your new husband will want a vacation and alone-time after the wedding, so I don't think that registering your honeymoon would be too strange. If you are considering that, I would take a serious look at wanderable. They have really pretty, free registries and I just found out about them a couple days ago.

Try www.uponourstar.com.  You can register for "wishes" and people contribute toward your wish -- a new kitchen; furniture for the house, landscaping, a new car, etc.  You can ask people to donate in increments of as small as $20.  It's great

I was in the same place when I got married.  What we ended up doing was putting together a registry of things we really wanted but wouldn't buy for ourselves, so a Dyson vacuum, new dishes, a fancy garbage can, etc.  Everything was more expensive, so people went in together to buy things.

Sure, we still ended up with some crap, but mostly we got a few really nice things.

Also, are you flying in a photographer for your wedding?  Ask if they have a bridal registry.  I have one for my brides.  I have family members buy wedding albums, prints, canvases, or even just help pay for the cost of the photographer all the time.  It's super awesome and what a great gift!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
