Ocean turquesa vs bahia akumal.. thoughts PLEASE!!

Hi everyone!

I am new to this website and I am getting married next april in the mayan riviera, we have narrowed it down to two resorts... The Ocean Turquesa and the Bahia principe akumal. I have read many reviews and of course both have good and bad feedback, like any resort. The bahia seems a bit big for my liking but my TA recommended it over the Turquesa, although i had a friend recommend the Turquesa, so my questions to all you brides out there, especially anyone who has been or ever better had their weddings at either of their resorts... any input good or bad would be GREATLY appreciated!!! we need to make our decision asap, to put our deposit down to save the prices weve been given!

Thanks so much in advance!:) Kylie

Hmm, I posted a reply the other day but it doesn't appear to be showing up.  I have stayed at the Gran Bahia Coba and the Ocean Turquesa, loved both and here are some points for you to consider:

Gran Bahia

Huge property, lots of restaurants, pools and activities to choose from

Food was great, but reservations needed for a la carte's

3 Theatres on the property for evening entertainment

Easy to get to the highway to take the collectivos

Long drive to and from the airport

Long beach, but lots of coral in the sand so a little rough

Nice rooms, large, really liked that they had snacks such as chocolate bars and chips in the mini bar

Ocean Turquesa

Close to the airport, about 20 minutes if I remember correctly

No annoying plastic bracelets

Food was good, no reservations for a la carte's

Nice beach, long could walk a distance

Other resorts close by

Long walk to the highway so cabs would be necessary to leave the resort

Loved that you could see the ocean from the lobby

Nice rooms, more modern than the Coba

Very small theatre, but they did have a really good circus show

It has been a few years since I have been to either property so some things may have changed but you can't go wrong with either of them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
