How far in advance to start booking DW

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am a new bride to be and we are currently planning our DW in either Mexico or Dominican. I was just wondering if anyone had advice on the right time to book? The wedding will be April 2013 so just under a year and the quotes we are getting back are very high. I know the prices can be lower for the resorts we are looking at. Does anyone recommend waiting until 9 months before etc?

Any tips or advice would be really helpful!!

Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem, although we're looking at end of Jan 2013. The prices we're getting back are ALOT higher then usual. and I don't know what to do. :( I dont want to wait and risk losing our wedding day/ enough rooms. BUT i want to get as good of a deal as possible for our guests. How long do people typically wait???

I had my wedding in Mar 2012 and I started to look for prices back in Mar 2011 and the prices were so high!  I ended up booking at the end of  June and we got a great deal and I never once saw the price go lower!  So my advice would be wait until June and hopefully then they will have the early booking deals up and you will find a much better rate.

Well depending on what type of resort your choosing would be a factor but if it is a typical large all inclusive resort I don't think you have to worry about the rooms being sold out this early.  Also if you have chosen a resort see if your able to put down a deposit to hold your wedding date but make sure it is refundable.  I initially had chosen Dominican Republic and had put down a deposit at a resort and everything and then ended up changing my mind and going to Cuba.  The first resort had no issue with refunding me and then the one in Cuba didn't even require a deposit.

Also not to sure what country you are in but I know in Canada a lot of the vacation suppliers offer a one time price drop up to 60 days before departure.

So as much as I know how hard it is to wait to book I think I would if I was you at least for a month and see where the prices go.   Also try out different TA's.  I managed to get a way lower rate from an online booking site I then took that rate back to my TA and gave her the option to lower her quote to me which she did happily or I would move on to someone else.  It saved me $150pp!

Sorry to ramble and I hope this helps I just know that this part was probably the most stressful for me because I just wanted to get everything booked and settled!!

Hey NewBride,

If you already know the specific resort that you want to book for your wedding celebration, than I would put a deposit in now to secure your wedding date, and continue to watch room rate prices.  I know that there are a few resorts that offer a 100% refund on deposits as long as you cancel 6 months prior to your wedding date.  I suggest this because April, May and June are the most popular months for destination weddings and wedding dates get booked-up pretty quick.  My Fi and I actually had our wedding date reserved at two resorts until we could decide.  But our specific wedding date was very important to us.  Good luck! And by the way, are you working with a TA, if your not, this might have an impact on the rates you've received so far.

Thanks so much everyone! I have contacted the resort to see about the dates for the wedding. It definitely is the most stressful part! Every resort we have got quotes back from seem to be around the exact same price and if I want a lower price then I have to go to a lower star resort which I really don't want to do!

I will definitely wait a little bit I think!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
