We've decided on As Time Goes By by Dooley Wilson, the song from Casablanca which is one of our favourite movies. For the dance with our parents we'll use a Van Morrison song since we both grew up listening to him and have great memories of listening to his songs. We also saw him in concert for our one year anniversary at the Gorge in Washington which was amazing! Not sure what song yet, we're still deciding between a few.

We're still working on the rest of the songs too - what to play while everyone gets seated, the walk down the aisle song, ceremony music, dinner music and party time music. We're using our iPod so we're doing the music from the 5pm ceremony until 1am. We have a partial list put together but we need to sit down with a bottle of wine soon and sort out the rest. We have a mariachi for the cocktail hour so that's covered!

Oh, the First Dance....the bain of our existence.  We are having a really hard time!

As fo the Father-Daughter, what is the etiquette for that? Do I choose, or does my Dad?   If I had my way, I'd choose "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys, because it reminds me of my childhood, being at the cottage with my parents :)   I also originally wanted Jackie Wilson's "Higher & Higher", but it's just too fast, and I couldn't find a slooooower version to dance to ;-)

Now that we're all about to enter crunch time and freak out mode we have to make eachother a promise. We have to promise that we come back and update this thread with lots and lots of pics. Heck maybe even throw in a resort review. I can't believe we're here! This time last year I was wishing time would hurry up and now I'm kinda wishing it would slow down so I can get everything done!! Anyways, it's an absolute must you get back on after your DW and let the rest of us share in your wedding bliss!! EEEEKKKK so excited!

Best,

Melissa

Agreed! We've been through too much together not to come back with a final recap and pics.  I love my BDW family, especially the wonderful ladies in the May 2013 thread!

LOL... too funny, now I actually want to make him a sign with that quote.  Long story short, Justin's brother didn't think our wedding was a priority and worth his money so he won't be attending. This also extended to Justin's 4 year old nephew.  Recent family drama has escalated to the point where Justin's mom has openly stated that she won't enjoy our wedding/vacation not knowing how things are going back home (unfortunate but true. Justin and I were just waiting for her to raise the issue).  Easiest solution was to fly his nephew out for the wedding.  Justin's mom assumes full responsibility/cost and can be in Mexico with ease and peace of mind.  So with 3 months to go, I now have a ring bearer. I just wish I knew that I was going to have one before now.

We're still trying to nail ours down but Spotify has been SOOOO awesome. It's like iTunes but you can build playlist out of any/every song you could ever think of without having to buy each individual song. They do a free month trial. You should give it a whirl!

I love those programs! We use one called Rdio that is very similar. It's been great to browse and find new music, both for the wedding and for our daily lives as well. Once we have our playlists and song selections set we'll download the songs we don't have yet to load onto the iPod. It's just a matter of finding time to sit down and do it!

Yes, I will for sure, I promise! Not only for the May 2013 brides but for all the girls who are newly engaged, and the ones who don't even know he's going to pop the question yet! I find myself back on threads from 2008 or 2009 sometimes that are still relevant and very helpful. I can't wait to see all of your pictures!

I don't know what the etiquette is, or if there even is one. It depends on your Dad I guess. Would it be really important to him to choose the song himself, or would he just want you to do whatever you want to do? Or would he want to choose one with you?

In my opinion wedding etiquette in general takes a backseat to whatever makes you and your fiance happy. Hopefully as long as the two of you are happy, your family and friends will be happy too. Who cares what other people have done in the past or what Miss Manners says? This is the celebration the love you two share for each other and it should be whatever you want it to be! msnparty.gif

We're also having my FI dance with his Mom while I dance with my Dad. We'll transition to those dances right after our first dance as husband and wife. love.gif

For our first dance we decided on Lost Together by Blue Rodeo.  We just started dance lessons last night (so much fun!), hopefully we can learn it all before May!

I was also wondering about the father and bride dance.  I think I will ask my dad if he has any songs in mind.  I like the idea of having the groom and his mother dance at the same time, otherwise we will be having planned dances all night long!

What about wedding party dances??  I have no ideas on that yet.

Kudos to everyone setting up their playlists for the night.  I have to pick out songs for the ceremony and that alone is stressing me out!  It's a lot of work!

Could you email me that list? It's saying "Sorry, you don't have the required permissions to download attachments. More information about this is available in the Attachment Permissions FAQ." but then it's saying I have to pay for a subscription. Is anyone else having this problem? My email is eweisz00@yahoo.com...thank you!

For the ceremony I like songs without lyrics but that are still filled with emotion. Bands like Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros are great for that! We also really like the soundtrack from Beast of the Southern Wild, although some of the songs are a little too epic.

Once I have a more complete list of songs for the dinner and reception I will post it here. We're going to play some oldies from the 50s and 60s, and then transition into some bangers from the 80s and some more current songs. For the current songs we're not exactly top 40 people, but more folk, indie and rock. We're going to try and keep the party going but throw in a mellow song every once in while so people can go grab a drink and a shot!  shots.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
