May 2013 Brides

Recommended Posts

Thanks for letting me know about this thread ChocoTaco7568!

Awesome to see so many Cancun & Riviera Maya Brides also!  You ladies are lucky your resorts have allowed you to secure the 2012 packages for May 2013.  That's the biggest piece I'm worried about because we're trying to get Memorial Day Weekend to alleviate the amount of days our guest will have to take off but our resort says they won't have 2013 packages until mid May. I guess that's just around the corner but I just want this huge weight lifted off my shoulders.

Here's my completed checklist so far:

Dress

Wedding Colors

Venue (chosen, not confirmed)

Photographer

Currently working on:

Securing Resort

STD & Invites

WC? (Do you ladies have a WC or are you just using the WC from the resort?)

TA? (Are you ladies using one or are you letting your guests find their own packages/airfare/room rates?)

Extra Decor Vendor (lounge furniture, ceremony backdrop, chivari chairs, flowers, etc since I'm not too crazy about the typical wedding decor at our resort)

oh boy...i feel like my list of immediate tasks just grew.  Luckily my FI has been 110% supportive and actually doing most of the coordination as he has a flexible job being his own boss.

No Need to feel behind, we still have 13 months! Thatâ€s the great thing about the May 2013 thread, we  get to share our journey and keep each other on track and inspired. If anything some of us might be ahead of the curve a bit.

I know that TauruSmith, Bride81 and I are all having our weddings at various AM All-inclusive resorts in the Riviera Maya which might be why weâ€re able to have room rates secured and everything booked. My wedding has been reserved since January and I signed my contract for group rates and my room block in March (all of which are based on 2012 rates).  The only unknown is airfare since flights wonâ€t be published until June. And since I have people flying in from 5 different states I wasnâ€t trying to get a packaged flight/accomodations deal.

I am using the hotel wedding coordinator.  Right now, they are very slow at getting back to me - I get email responses about 2 weeks after I email them but I am SOOOO ok with that because I'd rather the WC be focused on upcoming weddings, not mine 13 months away!  Most brides at my resort say the WC gets more involved about 3-4 months out which is perfect for me!

I am using a TA - actually a friend of my parents who is a TA in Ohio.  She is doing all the rooms and group discounts/flight discounts.  I have been told that you can get airline discounts for people traveling from the same airport to the same destination - which is perfect for us because the majority of our family/friends live in the NY/NJ/CT/PA tri-state area.  I am also told the hotel gives room discounts for certain number of rooms booked.  And my TA is doing a payment plan for guests, which I like.

As for extra decor, the flower shop that the hotel works with offers those options.  I know a lot of brides bring down extra items but I seriously can't be bothered.  I am not bringing 100 suitcases.  I'd rather just pay the people down there to take care of it - less to worry about!   But I agree with you, I am NOT happy with any of the decor at the resort.  Lucky for me my dad gave me the go-ahead for any kind of decor I want...  THANK YOU DAD!

What colors did you choose?  That's what we are working on how.  I know we will use yellow for sure.  We keep going back and forth between a sage-ish green, light blue, coral and yellow or kelly green, royal blue, yellow and black.  I am not into pinks or purples - it's to girly and even though my FI is so fashionable and will wear pink/purple, I am not doing it for a wedding.  I prefer more neutrals.

I've decided to do neutrals for my BM's.  I found some really nice pictures on Pinterest for inspiration.  I've picked nude for the colour, it seems to be everywhere.  I am allowing them to find their own style dress (good inspiration on Pinterest for this as well).  My only requirement is that they get my approval, but I know they will do a fab job at finding their own.

Where are you looking for dresses? Or telling them to look? That's my hardest part so far... Both my bridesmaids are out of state - and one is out of country in Germany so I will have to pick out and buy her dress.... I have nooooooo idea where to look? I really like printed dresses but I want them to pick there own.....

I have a friend abroad as well.  So she is looking in England for something.  I went to the paint store and got paint chips of the tones of dresses they can look for.  Various shades of nude.  That way they can keep it in their purse when they are out and about and colour match if they find something.  I have suggested the girls to look around at their favourite stores.  Places like H&M, Zara, Aritzia, Mendocino ... the list goes on.  Basically anywhere that sells a dress.  I also said we could look around at Bridal Stores if we need to.

I know David's Bridal has printed dresses.  Have you checked there?  What colour scheme are you going with?

didn't even think of places like H+M... guess I was thinking of traditional bridesmaids dresses but thats totally not what I want.  Since it's a destination wedding, we can definitely use an H+M or something, such a good idea!  Thanks!

As for colors, I am leaning towards these - http://paratinovia.com/inspiration-board-28-baby-blue-canary-yellow-spring-green

My FI's mom recently passed away - her middle name was Rose so we plan to use roses as our flowers.  I know tropical flowers would probably be more appropriate for the destination but we are going with sentimental instead.

Glad you found us… Hereâ€s my $.02 regarding a WC, I think there are a few factors to consider. The big question is what is the reputation of the WC at your resort/venue? Based on the reviews and feedback, is this person seemingly competent with a proven track record to execute? The size and scale of your wedding should be considered – how many people and how elaborate. How much extra coordination will be required? Are you using most of the amentities provided by your resort/venue or are contracting services from multiple off-site vendors? As far as TAs, I will only have +/- 25 guests and decided to solicit the help of a TA. I think itâ€s more advantageous for you and your guests to use one than not to. Of course this requires finding a great TA that you can trust and Wright Travel (BDW TAs) can point you in the right direction. Iâ€m using Teresa Stauring and she has been fantastic to work with.

I also think that is such a sweet idea about your flowers.  A very nice touch.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
