May 2013 Brides

Recommended Posts

I am also thinking about May 2013!  So exciting :)

My TA told me not to book the first 5 days of the month because this is "turn over" time.  So we are looking at the second week.  It is hard to pick a resort.  We are stuck on Punta Cana.  Looking into the Gran Bahia Principe Ambar or Esmeralda, Majestic Elegance, or Riu Palace Bavaro.  Getting pricing next week.  Anyone ever been to these resorts?

My FI and I were set on Paradise Island in the Bahamas... But this weekend we were looking at the Majecstic Elegance in Punta Cana and it is absolutely AMAZING!!!.. I too and going to try to get pricing info from my TA this week. :o) Seems like its going to be the same price and possibly less for the non-inclusive we had chosen in the bahamas.

Mt travel agent has had nothing but amazing things to say about the majestic elegance - she was trying to get us to look there when we were deciding on a resort. We knew we didn't want Punta Cana as a location from the start but still - have heard amazing things!

We were engaged in Nov 2011 and I cant believe the wedding is less than 14 months away. Time flies by, and this website is awesome for helping the time go by- so many ideas and wonderful people to chat with.

May I ask why yall are against Punta Cana?.. Just curious, I've never been outside of the US.. Just got my passport a few weeks ago though. I know Mexico was one place my FI requested that we did not go to. Not sure why.. I'm guessing because everyone in our families have been there and he wanted something different.

I have been to Mexico, Bahamas, Dominican, Cuba, Aruba and Jamaica.

Dominican is lovely and has an amazing stretch of beach.  The only downsides are the language barrier (which is not a big deal) and you cannot drink the water (even for brushing your teeth).  Mexico is my least favourite.  Jamaica is my all time favourite!

I just spoke to a wedding specialist at Marlin Travel.  She ranked my resort choices in the following order, Gran Bahia Esmeralda, Majestic Elegance, Gran Bahia Ambar (adults only).  Gran Bahia seems to have great prices and is beautiful.  Everyone that I know goes there has nothing but good things to say.

Thanks for sharing PuntaBride!!

At the bank I work at, all my co-workers speak Spanish... I guess I should start learning.... May also take a Spanish class this summer since my college degree I'm working on calls for a humanity class. :o)

Now of course I'm going to have to ask... How do you brush your teeth in DR? A water bottle?  (I had to do that in a cabin we stayed in in the mountains with well water.. Ewwww! We had to change cabins the next day bc I refused to take a bath in it. )

I will also check out Gran Bahia's!.. Thanks! :o)

Your welcome!  Yes, you use a water bottle.  It's better than taking a chance and getting sick.  You should only drink bottled water there.  They always have bottles in your room that are safe to drink.  I always recommend seeing your doctor and make sure you are up to date on any shots (hep, malaria, etc.), and it never hurts to get prescribed some medication incase you get stomach sick.  It's best to be prepared when you go to the Caribbean.  I have never had problems anywhere, but there are people out there who have.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
