San Juan Wedding Help

OK so my fiance and I are having issues with our wedding coordinator.  She looked great on paper and sounded great during our interview.  We are from Texas and were having to go through her for contacts, but now she is not responsive to e-mails and phone calls, and we are getting married in a short time from now on May 26, 2012, and now are having to do much of the planning  on our own.

We desperately need a venue for our welcome/rehearsal reception for Friday, May 25, 2012.  We anticipate about 100 guests (plus or minus 10) who are arriving from all over the US, and want to have a unique experience for all of them as soon as they arrive.  We know our hotel is asking if we would like to have it there, but we want to first look at unique venues before going to a hotel ballroom.

We have a wedding reception venue which my fiance handled, and we now need to have a welcome/rehearsal venue that can match it.

Photos/Videos:

We are arriving on April 28-30, 2012 to finalize contracts and hopefully take engagement photos (we know we are a bit late doing these).  Does anyone have a photographer they recommend?  We are looking to use the same photographer that does the engagement photos for the wedding day too.  They would also need to have a second camera person for the wedding.  In addition, we need a videographer too.

Music:

Any DJ recommendations, and band recommendations?  We are debating on which to use.

Florists:

You guessed it, we need florist recommendations too.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Hi:

I am getting married in San Juan on May 5th. I am using Ruben Roman as my photographer. Videographer is Raymond Video. DJ is DJ Rockhand. Where are you getting married? I can't really provide much help as far as welcome dinner options. We were looking into this, but it will be too costly for us to host one. HTH.

I am getting married on May 5th. My photographer is Ruben Roman and videographer is Raymond Video. Go on wedding wire and you can check out some photographers and videographer's in the area. I'm not much help as far as a welcome reception venue, since we opted out of doing one since it would be too costly for us. As far as vendors being unresponsive. They are all on "island time." I have experienced the same thing. Most take days to respond to my questions, but I have confidence that it will all turn out okay.

KMiller- how's your wedding planning coming along?  Have you decided on a location yet?  Unfortunately, I can't open up the attachment yet to see the vendors list.   We are getting married at El Convento next October and have just started the planning process.

I too would be interested in knowing how both of your planning has been going.  I am getting married at the San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino on July 3rd 2013 I only have booked the venue and ceremony and that its it.  Now I am tring ot figure out if I should uee the hotel to help coordinator the wedding, ie. flowers, decorations, etc.  Or do I use outside vendors, and should I get a wedding coordinator.  I am trying to do all of this on a tight budget so I am not sure what is the best option for me just of yet.

EJ4ever, I'm getting married at the Marriott & Stellaris too! Are you having both the ceremony & reception at the resort? Sounds like I am in the same situation as you are...tight budget, not sure if I should get a WC or not, & not sure about getting my own vendors or using the hotel to coordinate. It's pretty overwhelming. We are going to San Juan in Nov, so hopefully all our ducks will be in a row beforehand.

Yes, I am having my ceremony and reception both at the hotel.  I really feel so overwhelmed right now because I just don't know were to start.  We were going to go this fall as well but have decided against it.  I think we may go early spring.  My fiance is from PR and his family is there, that being said they really have been no help, because they do really know of many vendors there either.  I saw some of the prices from the hotel for flowers, and canopy for ceremony, which seemed extremely expensive however, I have nothing to compare it to.,  I have been using the websit Bodaclickpr.com to help me find some vendors but the response has been slo

While in PR last month, we met with Festivo for floral/decorations and with C+M Cakes.  We want to use our hotel's wedding coordinator but response has been slow, so we might select vendors ourselves.  My only concern is if we would get better pricing from having the coordinator deal with the vendors instead of doing it ourselves.  We also got our engagement pics done while there and have decided to use him for our wedding as well.

May I ask who you are using as a photographer.  I too feel that a coordinator would be better at negotiating with the vendors  I still am playing phone tag with my hotel coordinator so I have not be able to figure out what she will be able to offer to us.  I also am waiting on a couple of different proposal from several different vendors.  UGH there is just so much to do!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
