OOTS: To pre-deliver or not? HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hello lovely ladies.

Thanks to all the creative genious' on here, I have completed my OOT bags.  They came out wonderful and I'm really pleased.

The problem is that when I pack them, they are an additional 68lbs of luggage which would cost me $200.00 in overage charges.  My fiancé thinks that we should hand deliver them to all our guests before we leave in 2 weeks.  He has even agreed to go to the door personally to deliver them.  He wasn't so keen on me doing these bags, so has firmly stated that he will not be helping me to carry any of this stuff either.  That would leave me with 4-5 suitcases, plus my wedding dress.  Of course, I am a woman so I am worried about the presentation of it all!

Can you please provide some feedback?  Do you think it is tacky to hand deliver these before we leave?  Would anyone really be worried that we give their gift ahead of time?

Any help on this is appreciated!

I would say do whatever you think is best!!  If there are items they can utilize before arriving to your wedding (luggage tags, ect) why not?!?

I am actually going to be shipping my stuff to the hotel 2 weeks before...then hand delivering them as each guests arrives :)

Have you thought about mailing them?

I did a pre-travel kit with luggage tags, brochure, map of the resort and a book from the Jamaican tourist board.  In the OOT's, I have a Wedding Week Survival Kit, a Bubba Keg and some other items used for the trip.  We have 34 guests so it is quite a lot of stuff.  I thought of the pre-shipping but then it is more money spent that I can't justify in our budget (although I love the idea!).

I do like the idea of pre-delivery though bc it takes the stress of us for the trip.  I wish I could decide what is best :(

I've recently been thinking of this whole scenerio myself. I don't know how many guests we are going to have total yet but its going to be around 30ish. To save us in luggage costs I think we are gonna hold a cocktail party at our house a week prior to us leaving and hand them out to our guests who are near us then we will bring our out of state guests bags with us..its ALOT less hassle that way and the guests can choose what they want to bring with them!

Definitely not tacky, I think it's personal and thoughtful. If itâ€s any consolation,  I will be my OOT bags with my Pre-Travel Packages and delivering/shipping 6 weeks prior to travel. I think my guest will benefit from having this before they depart as they purchase/plan their packing needs. And to be honest, I have zero interest in lugging all this stuff with me to Mexico.  I will already have my hands full with my dress, décor and miscellaneous items.

Shipping your OOT 2 weeks prior sounds a bit risky.  I would be concerned that they would get held up in customs.

We are flying down with all of our OOT bag goodies, then once we get there, we are going to put the contents in each bag. We are having the resort deliver one bag to each of our guests rooms for a $4 fee per bag. That way, when the guests get back from dinner that night, their bags will be waiting for them.

The resort we are getting married at is very large and we have guests arriving throughout the week, so I couldnt see me tracking down everyone and then giving them a bag full of things that they may not want to carry around with them at that moment I run in to them.

For guests that can only stay a couple of days, I am hand delivering their bags because I dont want them to not be able to use the things in their bags the first day they are there since their stay is so minimal.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
