Iberostar Site Visit 5/12/12

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies! I am planning a site visit to the Iberostar next month.. (staying at suites getting married at grand most likely) We are meeting with the WC at the grand and getting tours of all 3 properties because we think our guests will be pretty spread out and we want to give them input on all three of them! If  you guys have any questions you want asked please let me know! I am trying to come up with a list and I am failing miserably, so I'm hoping your questions will help me as well! Also does anyone have any advise for me when visiting the resort, anything to checkout or be weary of?

Thanks so much! Can't wait to hear your suggestions!!!

Kristi

This is so great girls! Thanks for beginning this post. We're getting married May 18, 2013 at the Suites. I don't really have many questions right now, but I will be sure to use this forum if I think of any! Are either of you girls using a videographer??? Happy planning!

Have so much fun! I hope your trip is amazing! I am getting VERY stressed because my travel agent and I really aren't getting a good vibe from Janielle, she is not getting back to us with our confirmation and when she finally did all she wrote was "your date is confirmed" What is your experance with her so far? and what did your confirmation consist of? Have a safe fun trip! I cant wait to hear all about it! post all your info here and take lots and lots of pictures!!!!

I'll be there next Monday!  I'm checking out the resort as well for my May 4th 2013 wedding and my FI and I are staying at the Grand.  Hopefully we can share some ideas/insight on the properties.  Congrats and happy planning!

If you're going to IRHS and end up asking any of the following questions please let me know.  I have emailed the WC about them last week but h aren't gotten a reply yet.  The below #1-8 are from the email I last sent her.  If you don't ask, no worries because I'm sure I'll figure it out by next May.

1.  We plan to marry on the beach and would like to do a ceremony near sunset.  Is that possible - to have candles, lighting on the beach?     2.  I would like to have a speciality cake - something beach themed/related.  Can this be done by the hotel or an outside vendor?  http://www.celebritybrideguide.com/marisa-axelrod-and-kent-cecil-wedding-photos/?pid=1896   3.  We will be renting chilvary chairs from Tai Flora for the beach ceremony (because I don't like chairs with the white covers and bows on the back).  Is that something I can coordinate through the hotel or do I need to speak with Tai Flora separately.   4.  On this website, showing weddings from Iberostar - http://www.weddingsbyiberostar.com/WEDDING-DETAIL-SHEET-IBGRRH.pdf - I really like some of the "Port Maria ideas additional costs."  Specifically the ones with the lights going up the columns in the restaurant.  Is that something we can do as well?  Please let me know how we would coordinate/price that?   5.  We would like to have a welcome dinner at one of the resort restaurants the night all our guests arrive - can we make a large group reservation for that?   6.  I have read that the hotel does a beach party on Saturday nights?  Is this something our guests can attend?  Is it possible to get an area set up specifically for us?  Is there a bar set up on the beach for this party?  Or do we have the option to have an open bar?   7.  Is it possible to have someone rolling cigars for guests during cocktail hour?  I have seen it done at weddings before but would assume that would be an outside vendor - can you set that up for us?   8.  Can we do a fireworks show? and can we release paper lanterns (like they do at the end of Hangover II).   (The last two - about cigar rollers and fireworks are my dad's request.  But since he is the once paying for the wedding - how can I say no to asking.  Who wouldn't love fireworks!).

I will try to get those questions answered! Have you gotten a quote for the chairs from tai, I agree with you about the covers. Where did you find that weddings by iberostar sheet?! I love the porta maria decorations and I think i have to set my wedding up like that too! Its so funny that 99% of your questions are the same as mine!

Actually we just bought a house and moved to freehold last year--- we actually grew up MUCH closer to you in South Brunswick thats so funny! I miss walking around princeton on nice nights like this and getting thomas sweets! Also what travel agent are you using!?

kfarkas26,

Met with Janielle and she is very sweet!  She had a wedding every single day we were there and still managed to take us on the tour of the resort to the different wedding locations.  I know it's hard to be patient, but she will take care of everything!  She also checked on us several times after we met to ensure that all of our questions were answered.

We're having our private wedding reception at the Port Maria.  They are currently expanding it so it can accommodate more people.  It is all open air and should be lovely at night.  We saw several weddings take place on the beach during our stay.  While it wasn't exactly private, the bride and wedding party didn't seem to mind.  Ours will be more secluded in the open air dome located between the Suites and the Grand.  It will give us the intimacy and privacy that we want and still be absolutely beautiful.  And we can wear heels! :)  Our cocktail hour will take place on the wrap around patio off of the main lobby.  All in all, the resort is beautiful.

We are choosing to release the paper lanterns on the beach after the reception as well.  Eco-friendly lanterns are only allowed which is fine with me.  For those who have OOT bags for your guests, they will either deliver the bags to the guests rooms or have them available for guests upon check in.  The bags must be marked with the guests first and last names and there is no fee for this service.

I just got back last night so I'm sure I'm forgetting some other key details.  Please feel free to reach out to me if anyone has any questions. :)

Happy Planning!!!

Also ladies, it was suggested by another bride I met while at IBGH that finding a travel agency through FunJet is the best option.  One bride shared with me that they actually received money back for each guest that booked.  Can we say savings?!?!?  There are multiple travel agencies that work with FunJet and you can search for them via their website to find one local to you.

Thanks!

We actually work really closely with Funjet and they have this great program called "Groups your Way".  It is a great option for groups.

When we work with clients, we actually go to different wholesale companies to see who has the best rates, offer the best amenities, best group terms for our clients.  Sometimes we use Funjet, sometimes other suppliers.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
