Posted a long overdue review - Sheraton Hacienda del Mar

I have not logged in for a long time, but wanted to finally post my long, overdue review. It's been nearly a year! I got married Nov. 11, 2006 at the Pitahayas restaurant at the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar.

I finally posted it (and attached it as well) in the Reviews folder, but wanted to alert you here in this area as I never did understand how best to use, post and read this forum. Would the Review best be put in a "brides only" folder rather than one vendors can see? or Do they have membership to Reviews? Anyway, I did garner a lot of useful information from the members and wanted to return the favor.

I apologize for the late review and for it's length. I just did not want to agonize over it any longer. I would be happy to answer any other questions. Thanks and good luck and congratulations to everyone!!

Hi. I love the HDM too. I looked at a few places and really like the vibe of the place. It's relaxed, has a very authentic hacienda feel to it (at least to me!) and is not too modern. There's plenty of pools rather than one large pool and a really nice staff.

The Reviews folder can be found if you go back to the main forum area. It's a subforum of the "tell us your engagment story" or something like that. You can try this link:

Hi there. Yes, I loved that location because it was more private. I wrote more about it in the review...Also there were some rocks there that just served as a great backdrop. The restaurant is at the far end of the the property as well. The terraces look right over the water. We could not have a DJ though. People could have danced to our IPOD music, but I think they just chose not to.

On my site visit Jose Rojas (the Pitahayas manager) said it was okay for us to bring our ipod etc and face the speakers out (away from the restaurant and live music). When we got there he seemed to be worried about it. I sort of just said it will be low and you can tell us to turn it down if it's a problem. I knew there was just no way for it to be problem because we faced the speakers towards us and towards the waves. The waves just absorbed any extra sound.

People seemed to really love the food. One thing about doing a wedding at the restaurant is that you no longer deal with the Food and Beverage people at the Sheraton (Irma Toala was the rep then). You just deal with the restaurant only. We didn't do a group booking at the hotel because people were able to book online for cheaper etc. So it did not really matter much. Also, my immediate family stayed at the timeshares section - which I highly recommend. I was able to book 5 rooms directly through an owner for about $750/week. If you have guests that stay longer than 4 days it might be worth going to timeshares. Although I don't think you can find that deal now. I checked redweek.com or tug2.net at the time.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
