STD/Invitations?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what to do about STD's. My STD would need to include a lot of information....How to get a passport...where to book....and so on. And if they book through my TA, wouldn't that kind of be like my invite? So do I need to send invites out??

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for STD's, and where I could get them? Do I need our monograms...ready for it? Or those things everyone has when they have your names and dates with a design and what not?

Do you have a wedding website? Our STD was a postcard with the date and location and link to the website, where we keep all the detailed iformation updated. That's the easiest way.

Do a search for STD's or Save the Date and see the different threads that have toms of Q&A AND FAQ's about this topic.

I'm in the process of deciding which STDs I want as well. I really want the message in a bottle, but it looks like I will have to make them myself since I have so many to send out and I don't want to spend over $500 for STDs. I have all the information on our wedding website so I was just going to do a simple STD with the TA info and direct them to our webpage for additional info. We can include more detailed information with the actual invitations. Here are a couple sites that I have looked at that others have posted as well.

Here are mine. They have the website address on the front (i cropped it out of the picture). I didnt include a lot of detailson the save the date, because it's on the website. For family who don't have the internet, I have mailed them a print out of the website.

I designed my logo using powerpoint & feedback from the forum. I designed my save the dates with lumapix, but you could use many other programs. Then i ordered them through vistaprint.com. If you use them, don't pay full price. There are tons of coupons. I spent $12 total on 100 save the dates. My guest absolutely love them. if you are not a do it yourselfer, there are a lot of other options.

I am doing Save the Dates which will include a little bit of information on my resort and travel agent, but then I direct them to my wedding website. By doing this I was able to still get the look I wanted on the Save the Dates and I wasn't throwing too much information at them.

As for sending an invite as well... I am, but more of just a formality. And in case people book with someone other than my travel agent!

I may be one of the only people who didn't send a STD... we didn't use a TA to book our wedding (and its a smaller wedding - 25 people). We had a free hold on our very small hotel's rooms for 2 weeks, so I just sent everyone I was inviting an email with a link to our website where we had all of the information. I think I also laid out some details in the email for making a deposit on the hotel. A few phone calls, many emails, and 2 weeks later, almost everyone was booked! We had a few stragglers, but luckily the rooms were still free. We're sending invites (message in a bottle DIY) 2 months before the wedding as a formality and reminder to pay the balance on hotel rooms.

gotsearch.gifHi Trisha, there is so much info on the board regarding STD's. Have you found our search feature?? (above towards your right) Try punching in "STD's" and you'll find sooooo many threads.

We used boarding passes as our STD's. We sent them more than a year in advance and at the time didn't have much info with regard to our plans. So we kept it simple and only adding the date, reception site and our website.

However, many brides have including all the info you listed either by including letter, or for those who made boarding passes, used multiple pages (passes) in their STD's.

Our wedding is a week before yours and I am sending our STDs in the next week or so. They are a single page card with a magnet and will have basic info...date, place, and will refer them to our website for more information. I'm thinking I will also put in an insert regarding passports and our travel agents information. Then in Spring or early summer of next year we'll send out formal invites.

If you know someone who is going to your wedding city location you could ask them to pick up postcards from that area. I don't have time to create logos and we have a very small budget. My parents are visiting PV next week so I asked them to pick up 75 postcards for me. I am going to just include our date, location, and then like everyone else refer them to the website. Postcards are only like $0.10 down there, so it makes for a super cheap STD and postage is cheaper! They just aren't as personal, but I think that is what he website is for.

If you still want to send out all of the information, I was going to make a mock passport with information about how to get a passport, a folded paper airplane or boarding pass with info about flights to and from PV, a luggage tag with our names, the date and location, and a mock check in receipt about hotel info. I was going to wrap it all with a piece of fabric or ribbon in our colors. I was going to make everything myself so it would cost much but postage would be rediculus and it takes a lot of time.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
