Venus909's DIY Cake Topper & Straw Flags

Recommended Posts

It took me approx. 3 - 4 hours for the cake topper. I actually did it in a few mini sessions while I watched a movie or something so it didn't feel so bad. Crafty Eddie doesn't have a website perse but you can email him at [email protected] and he will then send you a link to a photo gallery of his work and ordering info. thanks Dominque! I love working on the DIY projects... I have more I am hoping to post soon ;)

Great job! Can I ask about your flags for the straws? What kind of template did you use? I've been playing around with the same thing, but I can't get it to come out lined up correctly. I have also thought long and hard about DIY cake topper, and I'm more inspired to do it! What material is your monogram? I know you mentioned removing the cake pick part, so I was wondering if it's metal or hard plastic.

Sorry for all the questions!

@kisha for the straw flags... I actually used an image that I found online and modified it in photoshop to make my own template.  If you use photoshop I could probably share the template with you. I had a hard time getting it to line up to so I ended up only printing the lines on the top of the straw flag and cutting the end free hand.

The cake topper is actually thin wood that I painted and then after I painted it I added the swarovski crystals.

Let me know if you have any other questions..I'd be happy to help answer them :)

Thanks so much, I'm actually waiting on my copy of photoshop to arrive. Did you use elements, lightroom, or cs? Not sure if it makes a difference, but I would rather ask and be sure. I'm still playing around with photography so I don't mind purchasing the software.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
