OFFICIAL NOW Jade Wedding Thread

Recommended Posts

Stacey, I forgot to mention that I started my hair at 10:30 and it took about an hour and my make-up at 2 right before pictures started. I probably could have waited a little longer but we thought we'd start pictures sooner. However, it lasted all day and night!

Did you have a DJ Megan? I only have about 20 guests coming and I'm not sure it's worth the $?

The bamboo room worked for you well? I was worried about it being too large? That is where mine is also. Pergola, blue bar, and bamboo room. My times are undecided because I can't decide on photography and it gets dark so early in November!

Your guests seem to be around the same ages as our guests. We are expecting less than 30 people too.

Are you having a DJ? As of now we are doing a simple "First Family Dinner" with no dancing. Our parents and grandparents won't be cutting any rugs so we're thinking it would be a waste of money.

As for the younger crowd, I was thinking we could go to the club onsite to hang out or use our ocean front suite as a hang out. There would be around 10 of us.

Thoughts?

You could really go either way with a smaller group and especially smaller population of young adults....

We are doing the full reception with DJ, even extending it to a 4th hour. It could end up being money not wisely spent, but at the same time if we are having a great time and it ends prematurely I'll regret not doing it. It's our wedding, something I only plan on doing once (knock on wood, lol) so I don't want to leave anything to chance. I'll spend the money and see what happens.

Completely can't fault you for wanting to do it the way you mentioned either though. I could definitely see a scenario where the dj is pumping the music out to a small handful of people. My hope is that with the smaller group (and enough liquor) people who normally wouldn't dance much at larger weddings in front of more strangers will let loose and get out on the floor.... we will see though!

The wedding is coming in a week and a half, so I'll gladly report back to you with my results!

We did not have a DJ. I really wanted one but couldn't justify spending the money. I downloaded an app on my Iphone called Wedding DJ. It was awesome! We used it for all of the music, from the seating to the guests to the reception dancing. You have to download the music on your phone and organize it in playlists but it really helps organize and transition all of your music and events. The resort will have someone to play the music during the ceremony and we had one of our guests help with our music at the reception but they really didn't have to do a lot since it was all set up with the app. They will have a sound system with a mic set up if you let them know you want to play your own music. If you get the big package you get to choose a musician to play for about an hour. We choose the guitarist for the cocktail hour and he was AMAZING!! I highly recommend him and all of our guests loved his music.

The bamboo room worked really well for us. We had 23 guests (including us) and had three tables in a row with one on each end (like a U). I was also worried that it would be too big but the room is actually a great size and with the table and everything set up it worked out perfectly! I personally was really happy I didn't choose any of the restaurants because they weren't very big and I imagine not very private.

How far in advance did everyone send out their invitations? Also did u include the food options in the invitations for them to choose? I assume we have to let the hotel know in advance what everyone plans to eat?

Hey ladies im leaving for mexico in about 2 1/2 weeks ! Im trying to pack all my decorations and welcome bags now so i dont have to do it last minute but im having trouble with these oot bags! For past brides, what was the best way to pack them? I have 22 bags im packing and i have them already put together. I have 16 oz drink tumblers in the bags and i think thats the biggest reason i cant fold the bags completely over or flat to make more room. As of now i have two suitcases filled with all my stuff , the bags, paper lanterns, bubbles, guest book, table runners, chair bows, straws, napkins and rose petals. Then one carry on for a few things i dont want to get ruined like the flower girl baskets and the bridal party jewelry.

Is 2 full suitcases plus a carry on just of decor seem like too much or is that usual? What have past brides done and future brides plan?

We have most of it all packed in one very large suitcase. Just a thing or two left that will be put in one of our carry ons. I didn't put together everything in the bags yet, which makes it a lot easier to fit things in the suitcase. If the stuff is in the OOT bags, then it has kind of an odd shape and will be much harder to pack.

We pre-put some of it together, but we have all the big bags flat and many of the things that go inside are in separate boxes/zip lock bags. It took a while, but we got it worked out pretty good.

One thing to keep in mind is to not have too much money worth of stuff in a single bag either. Each person coming into the country can only have $300 or less in non personal items before getting taxed on it.

I worked hard after finding this out to dig out and print receipts.... still missing some, like for all the crap we got from the dollar store, but I've got receipts ready for the bigger items :)

ok , maybe i will take it apart and leave them flat. I can actually leave them kind of flat as long as the cups arent in them since everything else is travel size stuff; mini lotion, aloe vera, deck of cards advil etc. i can put them cups inside one another and put them along side the bags i guess. I unfortunately barely have any receipts! I have a few but not many. I m just going to hope i dont get stopped! What kind of things did you put into your bags and what do the bags look like? size?

Thanks!

I had large tumbler mugs that didn't stack well.  I put socks and smaller items inside of them and then wrapped them in clothes inside of our luggage.  I put the bags in the front flat pocket of the luggage, which didn't actually take up space inside the luggage.  I had to pack and re-pack a few times to make it all work.  Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
