OFFICIAL NOW Jade Wedding Thread

Recommended Posts

My travel agent mentioned working in each person's dinner price into their cost for the trip, so essentially people are paying for their own dinner ticket (but don't really know it...) I guess from her perspective 75 per person isn't a huge burden on them but having dozens of extra people on you would be. I haven't gotten to this stage yet, we just officially booked our date at the Jade, but it's something to think about!

Hi ladies,

My wedding is booked at the Jade for June 17, 2015, but I'm going there for vacation next week for spring break and have set up a meeting with the wedding coordinator (since I'm there anyway I figured I might as well!) Is there anything you guys would reccomend asking/going over while we're actually there in-person, keeping in mind that we have 0 planning done so far?

Thanks!

Rachel

Rachel,

I must admit that's an interesting concept about having the guest unknowingly pay for their dinner.  I understand why you aren't on board with it yet.  Sounds a little dishonest to me.

Is your travel agent suggesting simply bumping the cost per room up $75 for everyone over the 25 included in the package or everyone would pay this fee?

Truthfully I'm not sure, it was more of something she mentioned in passing that she's done in the past, except in her example the 'over 25 guests' charge was more like $25 a person she added on to their cost instead of $75 (an extra 50 a couple seems relatively reasonable but an extra $145...not so much ) But you're right, I don't know how you would go about deciding who got charged extra or who didn't, or to just tack on a little bit to everyone... But I don't even know my exact number yet so I probably won't use this tactic, I was just throwing it out there!

While I can see how people may be overwhelmed by the cost of so many people, I just have to play the other side here. We have almost 100 people attending our wedding which is way more than we had originally thought, but I couldn't imagine not having every single person at our reception dinner or even thinking of having them pay for it! The fact is that the cost will still be considerably less than a wedding we would have had in our home town! And every person who is attending is already paying to join us for a week, also having to take vacation from work, find babysitters etc. I think that providing everyone with dinner and allowing them to be a part of our whole wedding day is the absolute least I can do to say thank you for being there and celebrating with us.

I guess I feel like if you have an extremely limited budget, you need to consider the size of your guest list prior to what you can afford and/or wish to have.

I hope I don't offend anyone, I just feel like if I was invited to a destination wedding and made the time and paid my way to get there and then was not invited to the dinner I would be pretty upset.

So we have 43 people confirmed so far! Its more then we expected, but are happy so many people want to come all the way to mexico for us! lol We're exactly 2 months until we board that plane and head to now jade! Very exciting and nervous! Just trying to get the small little things together.. I actually didnt even start the forms for dj or the resort that i need to send them so i will do that this weekend.. I have the terrace booked for now but with 43 people im not positive how this is going to work. I really dont want to be super tight with no room for dancing! Does anyone have pics of different ways the terrace is set up as far as tables? I requested this from Isela but still havent received and email back.

What is everyone else up to as of now?

I had 52 people on the terrace, and it wasn't tight at all. I used long rectangular tables - end to end.

I absolutely agree with you! I think by not inviting everyone to the reception dinner, especially for a destination wedding, there seems to be a big component of etiquette missing. The people who are committing to going to your wedding (financially and travel time), likely except a dinner, and rightfully so.

My opinion is that if you were not ready to pay for everyone you invited then you shouldn't have invited them. I think it's horrible to make them pay for their own dinner considering the amount of money they are spending to attend your wedding.

Don't forget ladies you do get $ back from group bookings. We got about 3500 for 27 people booked.

Getting money back all depends on where you live and how your travel agents work. In Canada, our travel is all through WestJet Vacations and they do not offer this for group bookings.

It was all done through my travel agent... Something about every 6th room becomes a credit which we can use for whatever. I would suggest to you all to check with your agent as this is not the first time I've heard of this. Three couples I know who have had destination weddings got the same deal or similar.

Really? We booked our wedding at Now Jade through Westjet Vacations and we ended up getting a refund of $1,400+. This was in October.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
