OFFICIAL NOW Jade Wedding Thread

Recommended Posts

We booked our wedding for October 23, 2014 and I just sent out the save the dates last week. But, we had already let most people know and already have over 50 booked before they even went out! The earlier the better if you want everyone to be able to make it!

I wouldn't worry about it. There are always going to be negative reviews for every resort, but people usually focus on the few negatives instead of the vacation as a whole! My sister has been there and says that it is beautiful!

Is anyone else freaking out about all the recent negative reviews on tripadvisor.com?! Our wedding is in 2015, and now I'm wondering if I need to start considering other resorts. :/

My husband and I both freaked out about reviews in advance. We both recently submitted our reviews to Trip Advisor, both of them recently published. I probably worried more than needed in advance.

Let's see if these linking them works --- my review ---- his review.

We've travelled to several resorts in the Mayan before. Now Jade wasn't the nicest resort we've been to, but honestly it's Mexico. It's beautiful, you'll be with family and friends for a week in the sun. Everything will be great!

Your wedding sounds like mine and I had the same concerns About the bamboo room being too large.

I know in some previous posts, there was a bride who only had 30, and she said it seemed fine to her, but I'm still concerned about it looking really empty in there.

@Megan Cornwell Did you book the DJ and everything?

I also know that somewhere in the beginning there are diagrams of the rooms with dimensions, not that it helps since we don't have over 150 posts yet :)

Who is everyone using to book their excursions through? I think it would be fun to do at least one together, especially since we have a small group. I've been struggling with ideas though because we'll have my daughter, and she'll only be 18 months at that time.

Amarie- Thanks for the info. Hopefully the room will be just right :)

I did not book a DJ but I really would love to... just not sure yet if it is in the budget. Has anyone else just used the sound system and an IPod? I found an app that actually helps organize your songs and the reception if you do it yourself. I think it's call wedding DJ.

I've also been looking into excursions. Anyone have good suggestions? I found one place for snorkeling called Cancun Mermaid Tours (cancunmermaid.com) that is listed as the best snorkeling in Frommers and is actually right out of Puerto Morelos. I'd also love to hear some other suggestions!

We used the WeddingDJ app and it worked great. We spent maybe $60 downloading music on iTunes in advance and had to pay for a speaker/microphone rental for the reception. The only thing we noticed was that with only one speaker some songs were recorded in "stereo", so they sounded a bit off. And you never really know what songs will sound off until you hear them with only one speaker (most computers have two. I guess you could go in your car and shut off the speaker on one side of the car and see which songs play much quieter). I actually didn't notice this, and it's not a huge deal, but my husband definitely noticed it.

Yeah, we didn't a book a DJ either, budget reasons, and also with only 20 or so people I feel like it might be alittle overkill? I haven't decided if a DJ I want to try and work into the budget or not.

I think if we do an excursion it will be a catamaran cruise because we will have my daughter and she'll only be 18 months then. Have you looked into those at all?

this is good to hear, i've looked into this app, so maybe that is the route we'll go.

We did get a recommendation from our travel agent for a catamaran excursion. Their website is www.paradisecatamarans.com and they are private catamaran tours.

Does anyone have an opinion on DJ vs. no DJ and go with the ipod for the reception.  I'm torn.  I did see the Wedding DJ app and think its great but I just can't decide.  Has anyone had the DJ and what did you think of him?  I'm more leaning towards just renting the sound system since the cost of the DJ is soooo much.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
