We're legally marrying before we leave Canada and since we're paying for a wedding commissioner in winnipeg, she offered to write us a script for the Mexico portion if we wanted. I thought this was a great idea (since she's basically doing this for free for us) but I'm unsure if the Mexico officiant will want to read someone else's work (or if their English is good enough to read something they haven't already memorized!)

Also, did you girls find the officiant hard to understand at the Now Jade?

I'm really not picky either way with which script is used, I'd just hate for her to do all this extra work if we're not going to use it. Also I'd hate to get excited about her script if it's not something that can be done down south!

Any info would help!! Thanks :)

We're doing a symbolic ceremony as well and we were also worried about the English of the minister. So we wrote our own ceremony and are going to be having one of my brothers "officiate" it for us.

I have a few questions ladies, if anyone could help...greatly appreciated!

1) Did anyone have their reception go past 9 or 10PM? If so, can you tell me what you were charged, etc
2) Did anyone get confirmation that they could swap or switch some services not required in the wedding package? is this allowed?

Thanks!!

1. You can extend your reception. The cost is $15/person per hour.

2. I've heard of people in the past being able to swap or obtain credit for some services not required in the wedding package (i.e. obtaining a $150 credit for not using the resort photographer). I however have had absolutely ZERO luck with having this happen and I feel all I ever get back from Pilar is a flat out "NO" to any request I send. I'm quite frustrated by the lack of consistency in this and would love to hear from any other brides with recent weddings who have received credit of some kind.

Thanks ironman - that is the exact issue i am being faced with as well. i have read on her numerous times that sometimes they will swap out certain items, i am not being so fortunate, Pilar is saying basically NO to everything i ask for as well. I think this is really unfair, it doesnt have to be an EXACT dollar amount but any sort of credit would be nice. I KNOW 100% i am not using the resort photographer, i dont feel like i should get nothing in return if i am not using them!! Ugh, frustrating!

Since we can't receive any credit for not using their photographer or videographer, we might request them for our hour long cocktail hour. Our own photo/video people will be with us during this time as we're off doing our own pictures. Either that, or maybe we could use them during a rehearsal. I don't want them getting in the way of the photographer and videographer that we're bringing down with us.

In my research and by asking questions, it does all seem very inconsistent about receiving credit for items not being used.  Their policy is that you do not receive anything for things you don't use, but I know several brides who have been able to swap stuff out.  I haven't tried myself though, we decided to go with the middle package because there was a great deal on the higher package we knew we could live without and I did not want to count on being able to trade things or receive credit!

I've been trying to think who were the last brides that were able to swap things and/or receive credit for unused items. I want to say after the May brides the WCs started putting their foot down. I have to go back a read a few reviews to be sure... I know the above comments reference not being able to receive a credit. Has anyone tried swap items in the same category (Fowers, Music, etc.)? For example, swapping BM bouquets for bouts or centerpieces. Or swapping live music for a DJ.

Pilar confirmed that I could swap my live music for 2 hours of DJ service. I have had no luck swapping anything else though. I have heard that you can trade things in the same category. for example I have emailed Pilar saying that we will not use the couples massage, and I am going to see if I can get a hair & makeup trial done instead. Since they are both "spa services" i have heard that shouldnt be a problem. I will keep you posted!!

I asked if I could be credited for certain things if i didnt use them and the answer was catagorily NO :-(  As it happens I was happy with everything except the photgrapher but they may just be because we only had the package deal which was for the ceremony only so maybe time was an issue.  Luckily I had lots of friends and family taking beautiful shots and we are having a reception next week with another photographer :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
