Honestly, not only was it extremely hot, but I did not like the set up at all. Probably because we had a larger group but at Castaways, there were 3 different areas. We had 8 round tables with the dance floor being in the middle. Tables 1-4 were on the side with our sweetheart table and 5,6,7,8 were on the other side. I felt like they were soooo isolated. It really felt like they were in a different room. I hated it. My dad didn't even realize they were over there until like 30 minutes into the reception! Choosing Castaways as our reception location is my biggest (actually only) regret. Once dinner was over and dancing began, it got a little better since everyone was up. It may be different with a smaller group that way you are all on one side. I also dislike the dance floor. In the very center, it's really rocky on the floor so it was difficult to to our first dances right in the center, we had to do them off to the side & i felt like it looked kind of awkward. After seeing the bamboo room, it felt more "wedding-like" to me & if its possible to change your location, I would look into it. We were the only wedding that day so we tried to change it, but unfortunately, there was another event going on in there at the time we needed it. Part of the reason I originally chose Castaways was to be ocean front, but it's so dark, you can't even see the ocean.

Thanks Shannon,

I contacted Pilar (and actually heard back quite quickly!), but the Bamboo Room is booked up on our day by another event. Are there any other facilities you would recommend? Would the Oceanfront Terrace have been suitable for your group?

So I do appreciate that Pilar has all of the sudden started answering her emails so much more quickly, but I wrote asking what other locations were available other than castaways on our wedding date. She wrote back saying that Castaways was the perfect place for the number of people we had. That was all she said.

Then a few minutes later I got a second email saying we could do a garden location, but that it would cost $350 plus 11% tax (mandatory) for lighting.

I guess we'll just stay in Castaways for now, despite my fears of the heat and the layout. I thought I had seen a photo someone posted of a Castaways floor plan, but of course now I can't find it saved anywhere on my hard drive.

Please don't let my review get you down. I bet it will be tons cooler in December. Also, since you have a smaller group than we did, you won't have the awkward set up like we did. I'd stick with Castaways over the Ocean Terrace. The terrace would have been too small for our group.... It even looked a little small for a group your size, especially if there will be dancing. Plus, I don't think it would be any cooler than Castaways.

Thanks - seeing how it's our only option at the moment unless we want to pay more for the garden I'm sure we'll make it work!

We had our reception at Castaways and I didn't have a problem with the layout because our group was small. We were all on one side with the dancing in the middle. It was also somewhat private which was nice. I wouldn't worry about it! I can see why Shannon didn't like it because her group was separated but if you have a small group it will work out perfect!

KitKat - how many people did you have at your reception?

Do you mean like sky lanterns or tiki torches?

I had asked about sky lanterns, and no, they are not allowed.

I think I've read that they are not allowed but I'm not sure... If your having your wedding off-site & want your guest to stay here please keep in mind that very secluded. In not sure where your wedding is being held but you may want to choose a resort closer. It's a fabulous resort, but it's very secluded.

I just heard from my wedding planner that they are not allowed anywhere in the RM.  The challenge for me is that the resorts close to my location (Playa) are on the expensive side.  So I was planning to transport them to the wedding/reception site so that we could save them money and to have a change of scenery. I will definitely keep your comments in mind!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
