I

I wrote about the glasses and the multiple concerns regarding their cleanliness. I also mentioned the front desk staff, the time it takes to check in and the pushy timeshare sales people. There's a lot of reviews about these three "front-end" things on trip advisor, even though I haven't seen any brides post about them here. Possibly because we all get upgraded to preferred and may not have to deal with lengthy waits, rude staff and pushy salespeople? I also flat out asked if they read their reviews and do anything to respond to the suggestions/criticisms. Will let you know if I hear back. FI thinks I am over-reacting, but I don't personally think sending them a note to let them know I'm concerned is a problem. I don't want to keep having nightmares for the next 7 months!
I think we actually all need to do this. I don't mean to cause alarm, but my guests weren't sick in the traditional Mexico way 😉 they were really sick with sinus infections, flu like symptoms. It all makes sense if basically there were germs left on the bar glasses so ultimately everyone was swapping germs. My dad was literally so sick after the father daughter dance he literally left my reception and he is anything but a wimp.... Could all be unrelated, but who knows...

Got a response:

Dear Shannon, thank you for contacting us. All of the comments have been shared with the involved departments and director of area to review. We are investigating these reviews, because the resort did not have reports, clients decide to post in tripdavisor and we already contacted them to ask them about it. Regarding the glasses, we have explained them that the water where they saw to clean the glasses it is a disinfected water. Thank very much for sharing your concerns, which we will share them with the staff. We will do our best to make your stay a wonderful event and stay with us. Thank you very much, best regards Olivia

Prompt reply, but not really happy with the answer... disinfecting water, really?  Everyone knows that water needs to reach a certain temperature to be affective for sanitizing, so if it just sits there at room temperature, dip after dip of dirty glasses aren't contaminants and germs just accumulating and transferring? How often do they change this "sanitizing water"? Glad I provided my guests with tumblers.

I didn't get a reply from them at all!

We will definitely look in to providing mugs for our guests. Where did you get yours from?

No reply, that sucks... I actually got my tumblers from my local Dollar Tree and used Avery's weatherproof mailing labels to create custom/personalized tumbler labels.  You can also order labels from Etsy Seller Davet Design if you're not up for the DIY

Just to put it out there - we stayed at Jade in February and we didn't have any issues with illness...as a matter of fact several of my guests made a point to say how often they saw the bar staff bringing fresh bag loads of clean drinks to the bars at the pool.  It is kind of funny actually to watch them carry giant clear bag with hundreds of cups stacked in them as they march around the resort with several bags at a time dropping them off.  We also provided travel mugs to guests but after the first few days when the novelty wore off most people had switched to using resort glasses.

I know you all want your wedding week to be perfect and I just want to assure you it will be - your guests will be blown away by the resort.  I know it's hard to put faith in something/someone without being there to oversee all the details leading up to the day but the resort staff works so hard to make everything amazing I really think in the end you will regret feeling so much anxiety over something that goes so wonderfully.  I really recommend taking a step back from the TripAdvisor reviews - even with a grain of salt I think they just bring on undue stress and fear.  I LOVED my entire Now Jade experience - would go back in a heartbeat (and so would my guests: 2 have & 2 have trips planned for this fall) but I haven't posted a review to TripAdvisor to share my experience (just been too busy being a newlywed I guess).

One of my guests did point out a review on TripAdvisor that was written for the same travel dates we had and the reviewer complained about juice not being fresh (untrue), not having enough glasses at the buffet (again untrue, or it they ran out it would be 2 minutes until a waiter would bring you one, not the end of the world) and that the restaurants were closed more often than not (definitely misleading, yes not all restaurants are open each night, but depending on resort capacity and/or special events usually only 1-2 were closed).  So it really goes to show - those who have a positive experience don't necessarily think to write a review, whereas those who want to complain are quick to jump on the band wagon.

Hopefully this helps calm some frazzled nerves :)

I'm very surprised you did not get a response! She responded about 15 minutes after I sent the message!

I too was going to provide mugs/tumblers for my guest, but my guest list became a lot more than I planned and I refuse to take down more than one suitcase filled with things for the wedding and unfortunately, the tumblers/mugs just didn't make the cut!

Thanks for those words, it really does help to hear. I've actually for the most part been ignoring Trip Advisor since we booked, but hearing that one bride mention in her review the glass issue made me concerned. I'm really glad you had a good experience and a memorable time there! That's too bad not all restaurants were open each night - definitely a capacity thing, and thanks for the heads up! We went to the Gran Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an in September and found the same thing, they had two amazing restaurants, but they alternated the nights they were open. And of course the night we had a reservation at the really good Japanese place I had to send my fiance by himself - I was too busy kissing porcelain after a few too many mojitos in the pool. Oops!

I did finally get a response last night. I think I definitely will tell them in advance that we're not interested, nor our our guests in the sales presentation.

Dear Kimberly, thank you very much for contacting us. We have shared your comments with the wedding department and operations staff. We had 3 reports in our medical services. We have contacted the clients who wrote the reviews on Tripdavisor to know more because there are not more reports. The Uvc staff invites the clients to the presentation, however it is not mandatory and guests can denied to go to the presentation. If you do not want to be invited we will tell them in advance. Our staff is very well known for the friendly service provided, however the commentes were shared with the Director of área to improve and make corrections in the service. We asssure we will do our best to make your stay comfortable. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any doubts. Best regards, Olivia Rodríguez - Social media coordinator.

I spoke with my photographer last night from Photos in Cancun, and he had nothing but AMAZING things to say about the resort.  His wife, who is Mexican, told me that the food at the Jade was their fave out of all the resorts in the area!  He also said Pliar is "the shit" LOL! and that the resort is fantastic.  I asked him about the cleanliness, etc and he had nothing negative to say.  And i dont think he has any vested interest, they work all over the area, so it wouldn't benefit him in any way to amp up the Now Jade, if it weren't true.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
