The misconceptions of safety in Mexico are really quite unfortunate.  Like any country, there will be locations that are safer and more dangerous than others. For the state of Quintana Roo (Cancun, Rivieria Maya, Tulum), you are the tourist strip and as safe as you can get.  Iâ€ve been to multiple location through Quintana Roo in 2009 and 2011 and have never felt any risk or danger.  Bear in mind that I also stayed in condos and often arranged my own transportation to get from one place to the next.  Also, there have never been any travel advisories or restrictions posted by the US government since Iâ€ve been vacationing to this location and this hold true for the updated advisories posted in 11/2012.

To ease the mind of your FMIL, it may take some research on your end to enlighten her.

I completely agree! I had so many people say negative comments to me and it is all just because they were uneducated to the area. There are safety risks no matter where you go, and you should always use common sense, but for the most part Cancun and Riviera Maya are safe. The resorts are their money makers down there and so they keep those areas pretty safe.

You should have no issues switching resorts...I know several people that have done this with no issues.

Is anyone else using an outside photographer?

Included in the Devine package is an hour of service and 24 prints plus a photo book.  I have been talking directly to the resort photographer trying to get him to swap the hour for a photobooth or off site shoot later in the week but I am not having much luck.

We are including our photographer for dinner.  You don't have to, but it's very thoughtful and they will appreciate it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
