The receipts are so you don't have to fill out the forms and pay taxes on them; it's very helpful having your own proof of purchase/cost.  I think the limit is $300 - anything beyond that will be taxed.  Some girls, from what I've read, split their OOT bag contents, decorations, etc. among their friends and family, too, to keep under the $300/person.

did you end up fixing the hair or the makeup?

I don't remember what makeup they had...I showed her picture of what I wanted and gave her the makeup that I had that I wanted her to use...she used her eyeshadows and liner instead of what I had. I usually wear a good bit of makeup and I probably could have just done it myself because when I went back to the room I fixed my eyeshadow and liner a little bit. As long as you have a picture she can work with you should be okay but if you are like me, you will probably want to fix it. I am glad I did a trial so I knew what to expect. I wasn't too happy after my trial and that was the only wedding melt down I had but I was about to fix it to make it more what I wanted which was good the day of the wedding! Also, since I paid nothing for it I can't complain. I had thought about paying A LOT of money for an outside makeup and hair person but I know how I am and know that I probably wouldn't have been super happy with that either so I am glad that I didn't pay the money.

Anyone know what I could use in place of the airport transfer? Pilar said I could give it to another family member, but everyone has the transfer included in the price of their trip.

I'm picky about my hair and make up as well! I really need to do a hair trial so it may be worth it to just pay for it. Anyone know how much it is for the hair trial? As for my make up, I'm thinking I'll do my own foundation and stuff, but just have them do my eye make up since I'm terrible at that part!

I swapped the transfers...she had told me that I would have to pay for the trial makeup but the hair would be free because I told her I didn't need the private transfers. When I got to the salon I told the guy at the desk to talk to Pilar about the price because I was told I only had to pay for one (he tried telling me that it wouldn't be free.) When I went back the next day for the wedding he said he talked to Pilar and I didn't owe anything so I just tipped the lady both days. I would try to push the swapping...Pilar never gave me an issue about swapping anything.

I worry that I will hate it (I always end up taking stuff off when I get home after having my makeup professionally done...) so I really want a trial. I also wonder what brand(s) they use at the resort spa, will my own makeup be better in the long run? I'm not worried about hair as much, I just want it wavy/curls half-up and probably bringing my own hairspray so that should be simple enough. Just another one of the many extra things to think about with a destination wedding!

If you use the spa I would highly recommend bringing your own makeup. I am sure what they have is fine but I took my own and am happy I did.

If you have over $300 worth of stuff I recommend giving your friends and family some stuff to travel with so you don't go over the $300 and have to pay tax. I gave everyone in my group some stuff to pack for me!

Hi Jade Brides,

I have a question. My fiance is really worrying about us going over budget and keeps asking how much the entire wedding will cost. So I want to know...what is the average cost for the entire wedding at the Now Jade?? I picked the Divine Wedding package for 25 people. As of now we will only have 25 people and won't be adding anymore. I know that we will want to get a photographer from a different vendor as well. Could anyone maybe give a "guesstimate" price? That would be very helpful? Also, are there any taxes added onto the Divine wedding package?

Thanks!!!

Hey Michelle,

The cost really depends on a lot of different things:

Cost of your external photographer + vendor fee to bring them onto resort

The package only includes white linens (table cloths, chair covers)

There is a lot of other little costs that come up as well you will see as you dive deeper and deeper into planning... so there is no real way to guestimate unless you know what things you want IE favors, OOT bags, decor, DJ etc.

There is a list of pricing at the beginning of this thread.

Hope this helps!

I'm bringing my own decorations, too, and as long as you have the receipts, I believe you won't have any problems with explaining to them why you're bringing them with you.  I believe that as long as you are under $300 per person on goods you will be fine on the duties, which is why you need receipts, but make sure you look into it.    Congratulations! :)

Did not know about the limit! Thanks so much for this tip!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
