Have you completed the "Wedding Planning Form" yet? It was like an 8-10 pg document, where you detail everything on it. I'll attach mine here, so you can see what I mean...after I sent it to Pilar, she replied with the answers to the questions I asked, and then attached the invoice as a pdf.  We received this planning form from our wedding planner at Blue Petal, not from Pilar.

That's a really good questionnaire for your wedding.. it covers a lot of information. I'm curious to see what Pilar tells you regarding some of the answers you've provided.

I saw this from another poster, months ago- worth a shot?  I might email her as well to see if she's still doing it. I think the Alex person this bride is referring to was a phoographer or something...

"Alex also recommended a friend of her's who is also a florist to do our flowers, Juliana. The prices for flowers at the resort is outrageous, so I began emailing Juliana some pics of what I wanted & she said she could do it. Juliana is based out of Cancun but will travel to surrounding areas (Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos)  to do your wedding. When I arrived at NOW Jade, Juliana came to meet us - she brought samples of the flowers she had in the colors I wanted (coral, white and green). She was very professional and did a beautiful job on the flowers for a very low price. 10 boutenierres, 3 wrist corsages, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, 1 bridal bouquet and 2 centerpieces and the rental of 9 vases and a basket for only $200 USD!!  NOW Jade wanted $65 for one bridesmaid bouquet?! In the end we saved close to $800 using Juliana and the flowers were so beautiful, my bridesmaids are still talking about them!! :)  NOW Jade's florist did not like that we ventured out to get our own florist, but there is no clause saying you can't. Also, when I told Pilar the price she said "I don't blame you". Perhaps now, NOW Jade will re-evaluate their prices for flowers. Highly recommend Juliana:  [email protected]"

Thank You Kristen! I did get that planning form but I did not realize I needed to go ahead and send it back to her already! I've started filling it out but I'm not sure of all the details! I'm so stressed with not knowing how many guest we will have! It can be anywhere from 20-50 and that's such a wide range. I'm hoping for no more than 40 bc the price gets pretty high!! Do you think I should fill it out the best I can and send it or it it ok to wait?

The wedding planning form is due back to Pilar 45 days prior to your wedding

Her response addressed a few things, but didn't answer quite a bit, so we have to go back to her:

Yep, that's correct- but our wedding planner at Blue Petal asked us to do it last week, so we did....was really hard, this far out, but we did our best :)

Ok, thanks!  It was a shock to get the invoice with all the add-ons :)

We have 40 people coming, can I ask you- did you spend the extra cost to increase the wedding cake and cocktail hour appetizers?  I know the divine pkg includes up to 25 ppl only, I just wonder if it's worthwhile to increase those things- especially the cake, when everyone gets dessert already!

Thanks!

Kristen

I only had 17 people there for our wedding but I would say do not increase the cake...not worth it and there is more there for 25 people anyways. I didn't even get any of the food at the cocktail hour because we were off doing stuff or just too busy talking with people but I have heard that there is enough food there for about double what they say so I would think you shouldn't have to increase the food for the cocktail hour. Once you talk to Pilar it will ease your mind I promise! I didn't get charged for a good bit of extras that she told me I would. Final suggestion - no on the cake; probably no for the cocktail hour also!

Blue Petal Destination Weddings is the Canadian counterpart to Wright Travel, who hosts this website, I think?  I got the name of the company from a rep at Wright Travel, they are located in Vancouver.  We signed our contract with them in January, and then Blue Petal (was previously owned by Mason Horvath Travel) was sold to another travel agency, so in July, our wedding planner left us and we were assigned to a new one!  It's been bumpy, but we're happy overall.  I'm a little bit Type A (as you can tell from my planning form LOL), so it's been really hard to plan/trust from afar, as we are located in Ontario.   I keep hearing that once we get to the resort, everything just falls into place, so I'm holding onto that!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
