How was customs when coming into Mexico?

How was the weather...it keeps saying rain!

Did you tip the wedding coordinator?

Thanks!

Umi

Hi Umi,

Customs was easy.  We literally brought 8 bags down (2 were full of wedding things) and they just asked us "are you getting married in Mexico?"  I said yes and that was it.  I am sure they deal with it every day so don't even worry about it.

The weather was...okay.  We got there on a Friday and it was sunny and perfect until Monday (when our guests arrived).  I think it rained Tuesday.  Was over cast Wednesday (day of our wedding) and was cloudy again by Thursday evening.  We stayed another week up in Cancun and it took another 3 days to finally clear.  You can't predict the weather.  Just relax and have fun and go with the flow.  We joked that we would just get married on the balcony in our room if it rained! LOL  Hey a rainy day in Mexico is better than a sunny day stuck at home!

You know, we did have a tip for Pilar with a card but aside from the short planning meeting, we didnt see her at all.  We ended up using that cash to tip all the bartenders and waitstaff who helped out our party.

Enjoy your Wedding next week!  It will go by so fast.  Looking forward to your pictures :)

 Hi Shannon,

No we brought our own Sand Ceremony kit with us.  We had it engraved and everything...and then we left it at the resort when we were rushing to pack :(  All you really need are a few glass bottles and technically you could use sand from the beach!  No one has to know.  But sand ceremony kits are fairly inexpensive.  We ordered ours online.

Lots of luck!!!

Kerri

I ended up tipping everyone! I tipped Pilar, Deisy, the guy who married us, the DJ, all of the bartenders and wait staff. I gave Pilar all of the money and told her who to give what to so I hope she did! We probably over tipped but oh well! I almost forgot and I had to go to Pilar's office to hunt someone down to give the money to!

Customs was super easy and they didn't even ask us anything! I was so worried about it and it really was nothing!

We just booked for June 8, 2013. We're listed as going with the Eternity package right now, but may upgrade to Divine for the food choices. I was wondering when you all sent out your invitations and when you required rsvp? We've got a block of rooms reserved, and the deposit isn't much for people to choose and hold a room. I figure if people do it early, there will be more choice (and cheaper rates) if it turns out we need to add more rooms and/or different types of rooms. We're also struggling to figure out how much we can do diy for decorations. The flowers and decor items are ridiculously expensive for anything upgrade or not included in the packages, and I prefer lanterns and candles and things over flowers anyway.

Congrats on booking your date! The hard part is over ;)

I gave approximately 90 days for guests to RSVP and put down their deposits, simply because that is how long our group quote (for flights and accommodation) is valid from our TA.  We are getting married in February and sent out our STDs in mid-May so guests have till end of July to put a deposit down with the guaranteed rate.  We will of course be happy if guests decide after that date to join us but we have just put it out there we don't know what the prices will do and that if left too long you risk not having the same flight etc as the rest of the group.

I'm also still TBD on decoration -- I do know you can use an external florist and the resort won't charge you a vendor fee if you meet them outside the property gates...something to consider maybe?

This isn't the name of the florist I have seen mentioned on here before (unfortunately I can't recall...maybe another bride has a better memory?) but I did see this florist mentioned for cancun area Events of Euforia and their website is http://www.eventoseuforia.com/  The bride who posted this said she would recommend and found they could work within her budget...might be worth a shot?

I'm sorry if this has already been answered but is anybody planning on having a rehersal dinner/welcome dinner or cocktails? I suppose it would be more of a welcome dinner than rehersal dinner as I would like to invite all of my guest, not only the wedding party (which is only like 6 people!). I'd hate to have a dinner and not include everyone that is traveling to be there. It won't be anymore than 50 people. How much would it be to have a private dinner? Could we just meet at one of the resturants at a certain time and just sit in our own area? I assume a private dinner would be pretty expensive? I was thinking I could just put a schedule of events in our welcome letter telling people to meet at maybe the lobby bar for cocktails, then go to a restaurant for dinner but would this accomadate up to 50 people? What are your thoughts?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
