I've been to other resorts in DR but never dealt with the wedding department so I wouldn't know which to recommend. I've heard the Majestic Colonial or Elegance (sorry can't remember which one) is great. But I've also heard that the resorts in Mexico do a great job with DW!

Hope this helps!

xoxo

I was looking into Majestic Elegance/Colonial as well.  I will keep researching, I haven't booked anything yet!

Luza 87 your pics are gorgeous!  What a beautiful bride you were!!!  Glad you had a great experience and thanks so much for sharing!  I have a pretty laid back attitude, as well as my fiance and I think our wedding will be a memorable experience......

As far as some of the other reviews, I just have to point out that it is a little upsetting.  Some reviews are from brides I never saw active on this thread and some have been very active.  If you didn't have the wedding of your dreams I am sorry to hear that.  Weddings are costly in the US and at a destination and so much planning is involved!  I have definitely had my major stressful moments in planning for sure. What I find most upsetting is now taking the time to post all about your awful experience. I know this won't go over well but I think it is a little mean spirited towards some of us brides who are coming up so soon, as well as to those who recently made the decision to have their wedding at PPR!  I appreciate honesty and I know there will be glitches for sure...... we are traveling to another country where things are a little different, sometimes more laid back and definitely not the same experience of having a wedding in the US.  This is the type of wedding though that we wanted!  A beautiful destination, that we loved surrounded by family and friends.

I am sure that this post won't be recieved very well, but it bothered me that much, that I felt compelled to respond.  The weeks leading up to leaving for the wedding are exciting and stressful and to be bombarded with awful reviews just causes more stress!  Don't get me wrong, sharing glitches and providing tips from your personal experience are definitely appreciated, but some of these previous posts were rather upsetting.

Sincerely,

Kelly

The way I understand it is that you are assigned a romance sales agent (Lauren was ours) and then once you pay the deposit to hold the date and its confirmed, she passes your information to a romance planner (Bianca is ours). The romance planner handles all the details of the wedding and will call you 6-4 months before to finalize everything. Then you are set up with a Romance Manager who is based at the resort and actually executes the plans you make with the Romance planner. I actually like this set up and it was one of the things that attracted me to Paradisus- I dealt unsuccessfully with wedding coordinators at two separate resorts and I wanted a no fuss no muss experience so I didn't book at those resorts.

I called Lauren (use the 877 number) and asked about the wedding calculator because other ladies on this thread discussed it. Lauren sent me the necessary paperwork to book my date and I faxed it back. Once the charge went through, she sent me an email explaining the whole process up above and with a confirmed and dated contract, the wedding calculator again, and a planning guide. The guide is a lengthy document that you fill out and send back anytime before the phone call. It has every nook and cranny covered from lighting, flowers, locations etc.

I'm sorry you haven't had a necessarily positive experience but don't lose faith! I have literally spent hours of my life like a neurotic person reading reviews and that's how I came to Paradisus. It has the best reviews on every website I visited. My friend was also in DR and stayed at a resort I was considering and delivered some disconcerting news to me that helped me not choose that one. I also have been in communication with a photographer I had hoped to use and she gave me the scoop on resorts too. So trust when I say you're getting married at the right one!

Her name is ***** Nova and here's a Paradisus Wedding she photographed- she's actually has done quite a few at Paradisus. Unfortunately she isn't available on our date which makes me sad thatswck.gif but she might be if other ladies are interested. She lives in Punta Cana http://www.*****novablog.com/siobhan-nick-paradisus-palma-real-wedding-punta-cana/

Sorry for the super long post! I'm wordy, I know lol

Hi EVKnowsitall,

I am just starting to plan our destination wedding. I am looking to have a Catholic ceremony near Paradisus Palma Real. From your profile you have  Jesus Maestro Parish listed.

-How far away is this from the resort?

-How do you get your guests shuttled to and from?

-Do you have a website or contact name/number so that I can ask about pricing?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Melissa

Personally I am not turned off by the reviews at all. Not to be a contrarian or anything but this is social media. We are not only on here to pick colors and pretty invites. I appreciate their candid reviews , it is a "reviews of the resort " forum". That way I know exactly what I plan to address as well as nip in the bud when I get there. :0).

Kelly-

I am sorry if you mistaken my sharing of issues to be mean spirited. It was not my intention. The whole point was to share the lack of communication that can occur between the bride and Paradisus Team. All weddings are expensive. To travel to another country and have not one, but all three events scheduled on your big day flooded with issues is not to be overlooked. My advice is not to fret (especially if you're laid back), but to ensure that you have discussed with the Romance Team line by line what you expect for the ceremony, cocktail, and reception. With this advice, I hope that the future PPR brides have the wedding of their dreams. I am certain that your friends and family will have a fabulous time as well! Aside from the wedding day and checking in, the complaints were very minimal--while it may not look that way.

I totally agree it is social media, and anything can be posted!  Up until now, I have found all the brides on here to be very supportive and positive towards each other.  Was just simply pointing out that some of these scathing reviews are from brides who have never posted on here.  Planning a destination wedding is totally different then planning a wedding at home.  Most of our family can't really relate, so we have each other on here.  I totally appreciate candid reviews but these are the first reviews like this I have seen honestly.  I am very happy and comfortable with my decision to have my wedding here I just really felt bad for some fo the brides who are getting very upset and concerned now and that is why I posted my opinion.  I am not all about "picking pretty colors and invites " on here,  I found this sight to be a total godsend!  So many ideas, reviews, and sharing of experiences as well as advice for future brides!

Kelly-

I don't think it matters if a bride has posted before or not. We are all here because we are brides of PPR. Does it make their experiences unimportant? Does it not make sense to acknowledge that with time, reviews may differ? I thought the same while I was at PPR--why didn't I see these things on the forum? My fiance (at the time) even asked me if I knew about some of the issues beforehand because he knew that I read the forum on a weekly basis. I informed him that I had not seen any negative reviews as such. As I stated previously, my only goal was to share my mishaps with regards to communication with the PPR Romance Team in order to help future brides have a better day. You have my permission to take my review with a grain of salt. :-) I wish you the best! Have a fantastic wedding day!

Kelly- Like the other brides mentioned I did not mean for my review to be mean spirited. I found myself coming to forums such as this one to get honest feedback about the pros and cons. While my wedding was not what the romance team promises at the beginning of this whole process I had a great amount of positive feedback! However, I wouldn't feel right not posting about my issues because I would hope that future brides already committed to PPR would use my feedback to be on the "look out" when they're day comes to ensure that the same doesn't happen. Additionally, a lot of brides who are still undecided come onto these boards to research reviews. I only posted the honest and candid review that I would appreciate. Like I mentioned in my review... Hopefully they were having an "off" week and this doesn't happen to everyone else. At the end of the day, the ceremony (which is what is important) was perfect and my pictures are great! Again, I do apologize if it was misinterpreted. As long as everyone marries their best friend at the end of the day it will be perfect! Xoxo, Darlene

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
