2013 Paradisus Palma Real

Recommended Posts

Hello girls. It seems wedding dates are quickly approaching for all of us. I am getting married by church on July 6th in NY and heading to Punta Cana the next day for my reception on July 9th. So Ev we might bump into each other. We decided to have an "all white" welcome party at the beach the day before the reception. I hope to have a Dinner at one of the restaurants for the bridal party the day we arrive. Having just the bridal party at the restaurant will be more intimate and gives the bridal party a chance to bond and get to know each other. I share in your frustrations of an added fee for everything. I shared this with Lara but unfortunately it is what it is. I have my planning call this Friday (had to push it back a few days because of my work schedule). Has anyone gotten any reviews on the new DJ company? Recommendations on specific DJ or MC would be greatly appreciated. I think music is a very important factor in having a great party. Is anyone doing one of the spa packages with their bridal party? I thought it would be nice to have a quiet time with my girls but the expenses keep adding up. I'm stuck! Anyideas for bridal party gifts? i have been a bridesmaids more times than I can count and I want to make sure that I get my girls something that they will actually use, it has to be nice but doesn't break my pocket. Any suggestions? I am thinking of using wine corks as my escort card holders ( my sister and I have had enough wine this year, I think I will have enough). I am still not sure if I should make fans with the program print on them. I thought it would be nice that it serves dual purpose. I am a little nervous about my dress as well but I bought it and I am wearing it. I am going to wing it and not do a hair trial. Worse case scenario I will have my sis redo it. I visited the hotel this past August. I had the chance to see the Spa's bridal suite. I really liked it. It was big enough and perfect for pics. I also liked the idea of not having everyone in my room and all the mess being left behind. I am still deciding if I should extend the party an extra hour. I feel like its the least I can do for the guests after all they are spending to travel to DR but you have to take into consideration that everything will be extra: open bar, DJ, MC. And I am not loving that part of it. Crazy hour? Do you think it's worth it? Will check in soon.

So awesome! Yup we might. I am there until the 10th. Are you getting married in a church by your home?

I like the fan programs. They are a cool idea we thought about doing them too but our wedding is in the curch at 5 and the reception is late enough where people wont need them.

I agree- no hair trial for me. trying to save money where I can. They really should give the brides the trial for a lower cost. At least 50% off!  $125 seems steep. Your reasons for liking the bridal suite are the same as mine. It looked like a nice backdrop for photos but I wasn't sure if it was worth the expense. I agree that guests merit a little something extra but I think you are doing that with your welcome party. I'm not having a welcome party and extending the party an hour just seems like the hotels way of fanagling business. Everyone is paying to stay at an all-inclusive. Why should the couple encumber themselves with paying for an extra hour of alcohol when you can hit up one of the lounges and drink for free?

I think crazy hour is worth it when you have a lot of guests. How many do you have? I don't have many so I don't know if I can justify that price. We might do the fire dancers though, because thats unique. I don't know- Jury is out on a lot of things, not that time is on my side or anything.

I'm overwhelmed with the tying up of all the loose ends. Before I used to come home excited about planning things and now they are becoming chores I don't want to do haha.

Yay- congrats ladies.

I wish I gave myself more time to plan. My wedding is this July and I am so stressed about the timetable. I am a school teacher and my HS is having its first graduating class and I am the senior advisor responsible for organizing and running prom, graduation, senior trip etc. It eats up a lot of my time. Then, I picked up a second job to pay for the wedding and that takes the rest of my time so I have had to be real strategic about my planning. Time on your side is a great thing. I wish I gave myself more of it! But I was so eager and anxious to get married.

I bought a wedding binder- I have one of those portable file boxes and I keep all my wedding related things in there. I have all contracts, printed emails, samples, etc. I also have a similar digital file on my computer. I recommend you keep all your wedding info in one place- it really helps.

Also- make a checklist and cross things off a bit at a time instead of trying to do it all in one shot. Don't listen to people who say its too early to pick invitations or look at dresses. Start whenever you are ready but giving yourself time ensures you get what you want. I've had my dress since last April (a year!) but I have never had to worry about it.

My last piece of advice is not to listen to anyone else lol. Family, friends, they have a million opinions. Do what feels right to you and your fiance. Don't compromise because people complain. I regret changing a few things to suit the desires of some of my family and friends- now they aren't even coming- so don't accommodate others. This is the one time you get to be selfish. Its YOUR day- be selfish! lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
