Playacar Palace 2012 - flow of events after ceremony

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

We are getting married at the Playacar Palace this June. We have 30 people coming. Our ceremony is at 4pm.  We are not having a private reception, we opted to have the semi-private dinner in the italian restaurant.

Can anyone tell me about how the flow of events worked for your events?

Right now with the ceremony at 4, we are planning to have our guests go to the Cielo Terrace at 5 for a cocktail hour while we have

some pictures down on the beach with our wedding party. Then everyone will go to dinner together at 6pm when the restaurant opens. Has anyone had the semi-private dinner? Is it realistic to think that we may be able to have some toasts and cheers all together at dinner?

I am also concerned about what to do after the dinner. We cannot afford to do a private reception with a DJ and dancing so after the dinner we were thinking we'd just go to the hotel lounge/bar areas with all of our friends together. Has anyone done this or can you share any info about how your events went?

Thank you to anyone that replies, I am feeling nervous.

Hi there-

The PP is one of our top picks now.  Our TA is getting us prices to compare within the next week.  Which ceremony are you guys choosing?  We love the Pearl Shimmer and possibly the complimentary package.  I was thinking that i could bring some of my own decor for the complimentary package, but am wondering if that will save me money in the end.  I think you would have a great time having everyone at the bar after dinner.

It sounds like we are doing the EXACT SAME THING! We are getting married at PP at 4pm in February, and we are doing the complimentary package. I wasn't planning on doing any add-ons since we are having an at home reception which costs a bundle. So we figured we'd hire a photographer out there to take pictures and then take advantage of the dinner reservations in the complimentary package at the Italian place. We also thought that we could hang out at the resort bar or head to 5th Ave, not sure!

Hey Guys,

We are getting married at PP November 23 and I think SpotJune you will have a great time mingling with your family and friends after dinner. One of my MOH had to remind me that, the people are traveling all the way to Mexico are there strictly for you and the groom. Don't get stressed out, like I was doing, in trying to make sure every moment was planned. <-----preaching to myself again! We were going to purchase the Pearl Shimmer, but we opted for the complimentary and will use that money to make the most of the reception. We are not having an at home celebration, so I want to at least keep the trimmings of a traditional wedding. We also can't do the reservation at the Italian restaurant because we are over 30 people SO..this is the mock up of our day

4pm Wedding

5-6 Cocktail hour

6-9 Reception

We are also contemplating a photog with us, but when I asked our WC about using a florist in the Playa Del Carmen area, she told me there would be a $500 displacement vendor fee. :( Is anyone familiar with this?

Congrats Kcharles17 + welcome to the forum! we just shot a wedding with a very interesting centerpiece you might like. It was a sculpture of the couple's hands wearing their wedding rings, posed on a mini-beach strewn with rose petals in their color.

A local artist made it and is currently offering a 60% discount to kick-start her business here..... an exceptional value!

I can send you more info + pics if you're interested.........all the best with your plans going forward :)

Hello Ladies,

To all my soon to be brides and those you have gotten married already. Congrats.  I am new to the forum and haven't posted anything yet.  My fiance' and I have decided to have a destination wedding.  I guess I just didn't want to deal with all the stress of having a wedding here.  So we have chosen the Playacar Palace resort for our wedding celebration.  I'm in the beginning stages and not sure what to do next. I've read some of the post and wanted to know how has your experience been with planning your destination wedding?

Have any your quest that you invited supported the fact that you've decided to have a destination wedding?  I look forward to hearing from the brides to be!

Lady Lee,

Our closest, younger friends were very supportive of our destination wedding. Me being a sorority girl, it was a good change from all the other traditional weddings I have attended and been apart of. On the other hand, our older family members were not comfortable with attending a wedding in Mexico. It didn't help that the media was portraying all of Mexico to be this huge gangland. Mexico was a great location for the money, plus we got engaged there. I have to constantly remember that most people have "Great" intentions. In the beginning you will get many Yes's to coming, and as time goes on, your list may dwindle. We have 75 days before we are surrounded by beautiful scenary and wonderful company. Now that we are closer, I could care less who shows up. As long as he is there at the end of the aisle waiting on me, I will be the happiest woman alive.

Hi Kcharles17,

Congratulations!!

Thank you for your reply. I completely understand how you are feeling.  My dad actually asked, "why we decided to have a Destination wedding?" I actually started to question myself if we made the right decision. But after thinking about it this is what my finance' and I want. Like my matron of honor shared with me, "those people who really care about us will be there." I'm not going to stress about this anymore. I am exciting for our wedding celebration.

If you don't mind me asking what travel agency did you go through to help plan your destination wedding, and are you doing all the planning yourself?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
