RIU - Semi Private Reception

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Has anyone opted for the free package from the RIU and done the semi-private reception? Were you still able to do speeches, or was it awkward? We are trying to decide if and when we should do these...

Thanks!

I am wondering the same thing. Which RIU are you getting married at? I am going to the RIU Montego Bay and getting married on 5/11/12. We are doing the free ceremony with the semi private reception. From what I gather you are away from other people so I think you would still be able to do everything you wanted. It would be nice for some insight from other brides who have already done it though!

Congratulations to you!!  You're big day is much sooner than ours.

We are at the RIU Negril and getting married on 12/12/12. I have also heard it's they do corner off an area for you, but no real other info other than that... I'm wondering if there is any need for a seating plan, etc. We are bringing about 45 people, so we are hopeful it's pretty private.

Congrats to you too! Yeah we only have 20 people..so its about half the size of yours. We would like it def more private but could deal if it wasnt. I think we are going to do a seating chart for the dinner  because we have these cute little starfish that has everyones name on them that we want to use!  Other then that I dont know if we would do a seating chart. I also saw on another post that you were thinking about renting the disco? Have you made up your mind? We told the resort that we wanted too but now i am having second thoughts! i just dont know!!

Your starfish sound cute! I'm sure they will look fantastic. From what I've read, though I'm not sure for the free option, someone at RIU may even set it up for you. If not I guess you could just have someone head in a bit earlier to do this for you.

Yes, I tried to request the disco. But I had to confirm our numbers for this, and we won't know our final totals for a few more weeks, so I've held off. I can't decide either to be honest. I love the idea of our own private dance party, but... maybe it would be fun to just hit the regular disco.

Have you spoken a lot with the wedding coordinator down there? Given that ours is so far away, I figure we won't chat for a while...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
