Getting started...trial by fire!

Hi all.

My partner and I are aiming to do this crazy thing in the Yucatan in June 2008. After I emailed one place and heard that they were totally booked up through June, I realized I'd better get our collective butts in gear.

Here's what we're thinking:

June 21, 2008 (summer solstice...we like the symbolism of that)

In or near Akumal, about 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen.

That's all we know so far!

Congrats!

When I first started planning I wanted Cozumel and when I started calling resorts (about 8 months ahead of time, all weekends were booked). Actually when I decided to change it over to PV, the resort we are getting married at had not weekend weddings available until late November. So, we are getting married on a Monday. Make your reservations with the hotel/resort as soon as possible and everything else will fall into place. Hope we can help you out!

Thanks! That's pretty much what I'm counting on. What's most important to us is making sure that we find a good place (or places) for our guests to stay, as we're looking at this as a group vacation that's more about spending quality time with our family and best friends than a ceremony that'll be over in an hour. =) I think that's what we like most about the destination wedding idea...that and the fact that it's an equal distance for all of our friends and family (in NY, PA, and CA). No one can accuse us of favoritism!

Yay! Someone else with my date! We were engaged June 21, 2007 & are getting married June 21, 2008. I also think it's cool that its summer solstice.

Originally I was looking at Akumal, but ended up finding a hotel that fit what I wanted in Puerto Aventuras (between Akumal & PDC).

I don't think you will have a problem finding a place. Some book up far in advance, but others can be booked a few month prior. You'll find the forum really useful for getting started planning.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
