Half Moon June 2013

Recommended Posts

With all the information that you have from Half Moon do you know approximately how much your guests will be paying to stay at the hotel?  I am having such a hard time trying to price it out because the only online site that lets me do it is Expedia but their costs are way off the $237 per person per night that the WC gave me.  Also, Expedia is adding an insane amount of taxes into the price.  I'm just not sure?  And I want to know upfront before I give all the info to guests and then they have some crazy amount of taxes or service charges added on.

I estimated $2500 per couple for 3 nights. $1000 round trip flight for two from BWI (most guests live near us in Baltimore), and $500 per night per couple for 3 night all inclusive stay. The wedding coordinator quoted us I think $467 per couple per night for 3 nights all inclusive. I stuck with the $500 it says online thinking with the discount the taxes would make it about the same price. I have no idea about the non all inclusive prices for the rooms. We went with all inclusive bc most of our guests are big drinkers and the rest are really big foodies so it made sense for us. We are also having our welcome reception on Friday at the beach BBQ and that is included in the all inclusive price...sorry hoped that helped a little!

Super helpful!  Those are the same prices I was getting when I did it.  I have the all-inclusive prices too - she told me $237 per person per night so I think that comes out to the same as yours.

I know flights aren't out yet - we paid $400 for our flights from Newark (NYC) to Jamaica last summer (included taxes and stuff).  I know we booked in April (for June) but flights were as low as $250 in January/February.  Guess it'd best for people to book early.

We are just having such a cost issue... we know some of our guests are money-conscious and it's a constant battle between us wanting to get married at Half Moon or going somewhere more affordable so that more of our family and friends can come.

Also, I saw on your contract that you did with them and it shows that you booked a certain number of rooms (and only those rooms get the "special" prices).  Do you know if there is a penalty if you don't book all the rooms?  Or do you just let them know a certain amount of time in advance and then you aren't responsible for those rooms anymore?

Sorry for the zillions of questions...

Yeah we had the same problem with the cost for the guests.  Most people ended up getting on board...they just needed some time to wrap their heads around it.

We selected a lot of rooms under our contract for the "special" price to make sure we gave guests options if they wanted to upgrade. They will hold the rooms until 60 days before the wedding and then they release them.  I don't think there is any cost for holding extra rooms... at least I hope not!

Congrats to you ladies!  Nice to see other Half Moon brides.  We have just started everything and looks like we will be going with Half Moon for July 2013, but we have not signed a contract yet. I love your full timeline of events, it gives everyone a chance to interact and spend time together.  Have you guys visited HM?

Hi Ladies!

I'm glad to finally connect with other current Half Moon Brides! I'm in the middle of negotiating the contract with the Half Moon for next year May. Its a little hard because my finacee and I won't be able to get down there to check out the resort and venues before we book.

Sweetnlow I really like your plan. You're just a month away, so you must be really excited! Can I ask you, are all your guests staying the resort as all-inclusive?

Also, which venue will you be having your wedding.

Did you go with any outside vendors?

I hope you still check the site. Can't wait to hear more details!

Hey All,

I'm looking to some more info on the Half Moon from someone other than the wedding coordinators. Is anyone using outside vendors?

We're planning on having our wedding next year May and we're in the middle of negotiating our contract with Half Moon. We originally wanted the Oleander Terrance, but we're a bit hesitant after finding out there's  10:30pm curfew. While I'm sure people will be passed out,  in the chance that the're not, I want to know I can at least party on my wedding night to a reasonable hour. Is anyone else having their wedding at this venue?

Also, any pictures/videos of the venues in general would be great to see. We're considering switching our venue to the Royal Pavillion.

Hi all,

First off thank you sweetnlow.  I'm trying to plan a destination wedding for my wife and I (we already had a civil) and my biggest concern is I didn't have a clear idea around budget and things I should be considering outside of the standard list everyone knows.  I am originally from jamaica and want to have my cermony there.  Last year I drove past Half Moon heading to ocho rios and the property looked amazing but I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with the wedding.

How did they handle the guests?

How was the service overall?

Any tips we should know about the property?

I'm going to work with them on a quote and will most likely share my experience as you did with the site.

Dion

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
