HELP WANTED! Where do we start???

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

My fiance and I have been engaged since July, and have just started planning! We have always wanted to do a destination wedding and had originally planned on getting married in Punta Cana, DR. However, we decided that we want to try and keep this wedding as affordable as possible for our guests, so we have narrowed down our wedding location to the Cancun/Riviera Maya area in Mexico. Last year, we stayed at Now Jade, which was phenomenal. The rooms and resort were gorgeous and the food was amazing... the beach was beautiful... we had a fantastic time. We went to a travel agent about a month ago and requested a quote for Now Sapphire, the sister resort to Now Jade, seeing as we know the kind of quality we want. The TA told us that it might be a bit too pricey for our guests so she recommended the Gran Bahia Principe Coba/Tulum/Akumal. That resort sounds nice, but just doesn't seem to measure up to the Now Resorts. Now, my fiance and I are thinking we need to do more research into resorts and finding other ones we like, but everytime we start looking we get so overwhelmed!

How do you choose a resort when there are hundreds? Any suggestions for resorts? How did you decide on a resort???

Thanks for taking the time!

Well you have a benchmark and that's good.  There are a lot of great resorts in that area.  I would suggest scouring reviews and photos and seeing what comes close to the Now experience you had.

Welcome! If you are still interested in the Gran Bahia Principe, here are a few shots from a recent wedding I did there.  I love the very natural, raw nature feel of the GBP.  There are some beautiful locations for pictures and the beach ceremony is very private.  If you want to get a feel for different resorts, MY BLOG offers full wedding shoots divided up by region and then by resort!  That should help narrow down the choices!  Happy Planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
