Backyard Wedding in Maui!

Hello!

My fiancé and I are planning a Maui wedding for February 2013. I know in my mind what I want and have no idea how to make it happen  (especially for Calgary, AB!)

All I want it to rent a house (sleeping 15-20) that backs on the ocean. I want to have my wedding either on that beach, or one near by – and have my dream backyard wedding. I want very simple, DIY decorations – buffet style food, and just have a party. I am assuming my guest list will be 30 – 50 people – so a condo or another rental near by would be perfect.

Any other brides renting homes as venues?

Aloha!

I live in Maui and my fiance and I are getting married here in December so I have done extensive research into wedding/ceremony spaces. As far as finding a large house on the beach, it may be a little difficult. But, check out vrbo.com. I would recommend the south side of Maui because it's absolutely gorgeous and sometimes a little less windy than the west side.

Also, as far as getting married on the beach, there are many beaches that you can choose from. You just have to apply for the appropriate permit and make sure they allow the number of people that are coming to your wedding at the wedding site. Also, the only thing with doing it on a public beach is that you are not able to reserve the beach or any section (so you may have random people in the background of photos and strangers watching the whole wedding take place.)

A backyard bbq is a great idea. However, you have to find out the "quiet hours" as far as a DJ/music goes. And this may be a little ahead of your planning, but we are using Cafe O Lei to cater our reception. Not only is their food delicious, but they also have a variety of island food and are decently priced for buffet style dining. If you need any other help/advice just let me know! Best of luck with planning :)

Hello

I am getting married in Maui in September 2013. We chose to have just a small beach wedding. We are going through Destinationweddings.com and they are doing all the planning for us. We are staying at the Royal Lahaina Resort. I am now skeptical because a friend told me the Maui shuts down after 9pm and there is nothing to do. My first choice was Oahu, but I chose Maui. Any advice or suggestions? Does Maui really get quiet after 9pm?

Hi there, I'm looking to have the ceremony and reception at Royal lahaina resort this December. I had a few concerns and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/tips/advise. 1) last time I was in Maui in June. It got very windy after 1-2pm. The ceremony would start at 4 and dinner would be outside. I'm worried it will be too windy to enjoy dinner... Thoughts? 2) rlr offers a luau each night- has anyone heard if it'll be noisy during the reception? I do prefer having the cereMony n reception outside by the ocean ... So I don't really like the idea of moving it indoors...

I just shot a wedding at a house that sounds like what you are looking for last Saturday.  Oceanfront, beautiful! The guest count was around 20 people and they had caterers come in and take care of dinner.  Here is a link to the vacation homes website: http://www.alohaomakena.com/index.html  PM me if you want to see my photos from that venue, I don't want to get in trouble for posting my own blog URL, I know they are strict about people coming in here and self promoting. Best of luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
