I am JUST starting to look now at destinations and I am seriously considering this resort.  I'm looking at Nov 30, 2013.  They said they have a 5pm symbolic ceremony available.

I wanted to know what everyone thought about the fact that I was going to possibly have my wedding Thanksgiving weekend (possibly, because I haven't actually booked anything yet).  It will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  A few people said that it's a wonderful idea because they're already off from work and get to go away from the cold weather (we're NYers) for a long weekend.  Other people said that Thanksgiving is a "family holiday" and that it would be unfair to ask people to go away that week.  I did suggest that people can come the Wed night before, I would have a welcome dinner on Thanksgiving for those who could make it and for those who cannot, they could come on Fri or Sat for just the ceremony on Sat.  There would also be a brunch on Sun morning for those who missed the welcome dinner.  Technically, it's still the off season so the flights and hotels are cheaper than if I were to do it in Dec or in Jan/Feb 2014, so I thought I was being considerate picking a day that most people would not have to request time off from work and when the prices are cheaper.

What is everyone's opinion of this?

Also, are there any other Nov 2013 brides out there??

  I would first ask your families and the people that are most important to you, and get their honest thoughts and opinions. My fiance's family goes to either Disney world or Universal every year for Thanksgiving week. I thought it was great to have everyone together like that. Although my family weren't too happy. But since it's your wedding everyone should be able to come and each of your families can all be there together. I personally think it's a great idea though!.. Just ask them for their thoughts. :o)

@MissBubbles:

Would your fiance be pissed if he had to miss Thanksgiving week with his fam to go to a wedding??

I ask because I asked the 4 girls I would put in my bridal party and I asked my family.  My family is all for it especially since my sister and her kids are in school.  My fiance has siblings still in school, as well, so we would have to do a time when everyone is off.  2 of the 4 girls in my party said it would be a problem, one of them said she possibly wouldn't come (I've since decided I will not be putting her in my bridal party).  So I was sort of torn, but if it's good for my family and my fiance's family, they're going to be the most important.  I figure the rest will miss Thanksgiving and see their family on Christmas or another time and if my wedding is not that important, then they won't come and I don't want them to be there anyway.  :)

I just wanted to make sure people weren't just saying it was convenient for them when it wasn't and were going to talk behind my back about how annoyed they were!

Thanks for your input. :)

Hello to all the future brides, after thinking my fiance and I were going to be married at the Bahamas we have since decided to look into other options because of our budget. I have been e-mailing any and every resort in Punta Cana in the Dominican and have received multiple responses and although there are a lot of great packages, Majestic elegance is my favorite so far. It seems to be somewhat pricey but you still get TONS more than in the Bahamas. We have chosen our date, August 22, 2013 and colors and that's about it. I feel that I am really limited as far as planning any further details until we secure our date and location. I think choosing the resort is the most stressful part (or at least I hope so, I couldn't imagine it being more stressful wacko.gif hahaha)

I think we have about 70 people we are inviting but we think only 40-50 will actually go to the wedding. The most exciting part is the all inclusive (especially the alcohol part, eeeeh ya! ) I look forward to hearing all the ideas you all have and being able to share ideas with you all, as well. Happy planning!!!

Congrats!  The Majestic is an excellent choice.  We are all booked with our travel agent to secure our group rate (a good way to go) and now our guests have 90 days to put their deposits in.  They can of course book on their own, but it is unlikely they will get a better price.  Securing the date and deciding on your reception venue is the hardest part.  Once you have that info you can get your invites out and then it's pretty simple after that!  Have fun and try not to stress too much.  You are going to have an amazing "week-long" wedding!

Thank you puntabride! I'm happy to report that my fiance and I looked at all our options and we have definitely decided punta cana is the better choice for our wedding! I have gone over all the information I have received from various resorts and I am loving the majestic more and more! Hope your plans are going well, it's great to be able to talk to people through this website, I'm sure I will have TONS more questions as time goes by =)

You may either need to work with a travel agent and have them contact the resort directly to get the group rate or contact the resort yourself and ask them for the rate. I think using a travel agent will make things much more easier for you and your guests because you won't have to be stressing out on that, on top of the other million things, happy planning! =)

I use redtag.com to get a rough estimate of airfare and accomodation combined and then go to a travel agent to get a group rate.  Ours was about $300 less this way for 7 days.

Hi ladies reading your post has really helped me out on my wedding planning. We are looking at the first week of August for our wedding and the Majestic is a top contender for our location. My family wants to have a Catholic ceremony. I'm still waiting for my quotes from the TA for our prices.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
