Save the dates or actual invitation..I'm confused

Recommended Posts

I have been working with the TA to get all our pricing and dates picked. When this happens my guests will have 90 days to pay the deposit. It is still 16 moths away though so I am not sure if I send actual invites or save the dates. Can someone explain what is appropriate.

typically people will send the save the date (STD) as soon as they know the date and in the case of a DW, as soon as they have the travel info so that people can plan and book accordingly.  but then send out "real" invites closer to the wedding day once those details have been ironed out (location, time, etc.)

My timing was slightly different as we were only 8 months out when my TA got pricing for me, but once we had that, we sent out e-stds, with a link to our wedding website which then had all the details about booking and the deposits, etc. Then I sent out the actual paper invites out 2 months prior. Honestly, I didn't really need those, because we basically know who is coming except for a couple of people, but I wanted to send them. And it did get people to go back to the website to read all the updated info and give us a meal choice.

I agree - the actual invites were more of a formality when I sent mine out.  I did provide more details for those that weren't checking our wedding website - like the date/time of the welcome dinner, what to expect on the wedding day (ours involved a boat ride, etc.).

We sent out STDs about a year in advance of our wedding, when we had a date booked with the resort and had our pricing ect.  We didn't include much information, just the month and resort.  We then were going to send out formal invitations closer to our wedding date, but by them everyone we sent a STD to either told us they would be coming and paid their deposit, or no they wouldn't be coming.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
