The majority of my friends are (if they come) are going to pay for their own accomodations. Its just a handful of people, but the people who are my mom's friends are getting 3-4nights paid for at the ritzy(ier) hotel.

You said you have been playing travel agent.  Well I would stop immediately find a real travel agent and send out information and give your travel agent the information on who you will or will not be paying for and let her handle the calls etc and booking.  If your mothers friends do not want to put a deposit down with travel agent etc I guess they just won't be going.  The travel agent can not charge anything to your credit card that you do not approve!

I'm not paying for my guests accomodations, i simply couldn't afford it! I am basically saying to friends that i would love them to be there but i understand if they can't manage it - if they want to come they are financially responsible for themselves

I find it kind of weird that only her friends would get the accomodation!! Its a problem because its her money, if it was yours it would be a lot easier to put your foot down!

EXACTLY!

If I bring up anything about helping my one friend out who lost her job this year, my mom is like, "well you can put her up at the caribe..." UM, no I'm sorry I want to be able to see my friends just like you.

My dad said he will pay for my aunt and cousin...their airfare and hotel...at the nicer hotel! This is the aunt that never bothered to call me on my birthday or send me a gift my entire life, but SURE why not? Let's send her to a 5 star hotel on my wedding budget! So frustrating...

At least you have a budget. my mum said she will contribute significantly to my wedding but wont give a figure. she just tells me to get on with choosing a venue despite the fact i dont know how many people i can afford or whether i can have a basic package or something a bit more upscale =S

A date (april 6th 2013) is the sum total of my wedding preparations so far. it is hilarious that one day of our lives causes this much stress and drama though!

Agree that paying everything for the aunt is ridiulous if shes never been particularly involved in your life! I have a long lost uncle (well hes not technically lost he just stopped visiting ten years ago and will send a card once every 2 years) and even if i invited him, i wouldnt pay and i doubt he'd come

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
