Recommended Posts

I'm getting married on April 11, 2014 and have hired Octavio Montes as my photographer. We're so excited to work with him! I actually found him after reading several great blogs about Octavio's work on this forum.  After looking at his website, my soon to be husband and myself, were very impressed with his work. His prices are reasonable and his work looks amazing. Counting the days now...so excited!

Congratulations!! How exciting!! Please keep us updated =)

Hello Brides!

I hope your planning is going smoothly! Its only 4 months away from my BIG day at GCR. :)

I wanted to ask the previous brides about setting up a welcome dinner for the guests and a rehearsal dinner. Did you guys pay for the resort to keep the spot available? or did you just wing it by letting the guests know where to meet and at what time? What was your experiance if you did hold the spot and pay for it or if you did not pay and just wing it.

Thanks for your feedback!

A question for previous brides. How do you go about setting up lights in, say, the terrace if you have your wedding there. Do you pay extra for it or is it included. I don't want anything crazy, just something that will set the party mood and that will make sure we at lest see our food and each other.

I asked my WC this question before and she says the DJ has lights, and that it will be enough. If you want more lights, it's extra charge and the options arent that great anyway. I'm going the flameless candles route. Lots in Michaels. Hope that helps!

Do you know anything about lanterns (like paper balls) to hang around? They are inexpensive but I don't know how they would hang around in the terrace? I didn't see any poles to hang these

To all brides looking for a wedding photographer in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Riviera Maya, please consider Octavio Montes! After doing a ton of research on these forums and looking through photography vendors' websites I found that he has the most reasonable prices for such beautiful and quality work. He even offers a 10% off discount to brides, which is great because I feel like a lot of photographers take advantage of destination wedding couples with their ridiculous prices. He was very responsive and professional and accepts PayPal. These forums have been a huge help during my wedding planning and I just wanted to share this info as my big day is in August and I can't wait for Octavio to capture every moment! You can find his work on http://www.OctavioMontes.com :)

Wow I did not know this, but I'm not overly surprised. If it weren't for the gorgeous beach and the chapel I'd be so disappointed I picked this resort because of their outrageous fees!

I feel your pain. How is it costing them $20 more to feed an outside vendors?? We are paying $350 for the vendor fee. The vendors do not even get unlimited drinks or food perks. At the very least they could charge their dinner the same rate as every other guest.

Even trying to get white tiffany chairs instead of folding chairs will cost something. White tiffany chairs are supposedly standard just like the folding chairs, but subject to availability. To guarantee your choice, you have to pay $10 per chair. Why should I pay for something that should come STANDARD??

HAHA, I paid for the Tiffany chairs as well in order to 'reserve them.' I don't know when you are getting married but I just got back and everything was amazing!

I just got back too! :D Everybody loved the wedding day. From the Catholic ceremony to the reception. I had 70 guests so I took my chances and didn't pay for the extra charge. I had told my wedding coordinator how much I really want the Tiffany chairs over the Folding chairs.

About the lighting in the Gaviotas/ Sunset Terrace, if your wedding is at 4pm and reception is at 6pm, it will be perfect. You won't have to worry about lighting because the sun doesn't set until past 7 ( Maybe the sun sets later in the summer?) . I would suggest you have dinner first so you can see your food. I brought flameless candles and I didn't notice them very much during the reception.

We hired DJ Doremixx and got the lightup dance floor. They bring some lights with them too. So between the sunset and the DJ. you should have enough sun in the summer.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
