2013 Gran Caribe Real/ Royal Cancun Brides

Hi! For those who did the catholic ceremony, I'd like to ask if you were allowed to pick non religious songs for your ceremony? At least the song you walk down the aisle?

Yes we were allowed to.

Hi All,

I am back....so wedding is less than a month away and just got my coorinator- anyone have Elizabeth Sotelo, any advice, is she good, is she nice- I am one of the crazy giddy brides with a organisational streak- but not OCD, juts like to ocver the basis and let pepople go with the flow. I booked the extra hour as I know it will be party central. What did people do after that- head to Lobby Bar- I hear it closes at like 11, did anyone head off resort after the wedding? I am getting excietd but so much to do as we are emigrating back to Ireland straight afterwards- Eeeek so still have apartment stuff to sell :)

I also (demading bride that I am) wanted to know about the hair and make-up I heard it is wonderful and I booked a trial session and a sesion on the day- but any advice as what to do to prepare before hand would be appreiciated.

They are called Floreira Riviera Maya.

email: info@floresrivieramaya.com

I am currently in contact with Alina. Mind you, it took awhile for them to get back to me as well.

But when they emailed me back, they just kept answering my questions.

It feels good to get the ball rolling instead of waiting months in between emails :)

Hope they're a good match for you too!

Hi! I am also in contact with Alina with Floreira Riviera Maya, just waiting on quotes. I have also been in contact with Julieta from Cherry Blossom Flowers art decor in Cancun. She has been great answering my questions and sending me quotes that are within my budget, this is their email address sales@@cherryblossom.com.mx. Hope you can find this helpful =)

Hi ladies! So in regards to the $350 outside vendor fee...just last month there was a bride who got married at GCR and even though she herself brought in the real flowers from an outside florist, they still charged her the outside vendor fee.  It's true that initially, some brides were able to bypass the fee by doing this, but it seems that now the resorts are really clamping down on this. Basically, even if your florist never sets foot on the resort, if you have real flowers that you did not get from the resort, you will get the fee.  We are not happy with this, but even with the outside vendor fee, we are getting a great deal on our flowers so it is what it is.

Also, I've seen nothing but great reviews on this forum about Spazula's hair and makeup so I wouldn't worry about that; I have a TON of hair, very thick too, and I'm not in the least worried, but I'm still doing a hair and makeup trial a few days before just so that we can try out a couple of things and see what works the best :) The only thing I'm not sure about is the extent of their nail services; I want to know if they do Shellac because my decision on what to do with my nails will really depend on that.  Since we are less than a month away from our big day, we have been transferred to our on-site coordinator and I've already bombarded her with that question and a few others :)

My only other concern right now is being able to speak with the minister that will be doing our ceremony because I want to know exactly how the ceremony will go; my FI and I are catholic and would have had a catholic wedding at the chapel, but my fiance's annulment is taking forever to get approved so we won't be able to do it in time, therefore, we are having a non-denominational ceremony at the gazebo and I really have no idea what to expect as far as a non-catholic wedding ceremony goes.  Anyone who has thoughts on this and can provide guidance would really be appreciated!! Thanks!!

hello what kind of flowers are you getting (centerpieces, for the ceremony, bouquets, etc?) how did you make the comparison? do you know the name of the vendor that the GCR works with? what about the one you are working with? Please let me know :) I initially budget $500 for flowers but just the bouquets for the bridesmaid are $80 each :(

My wedding theme is what I like to call "Spanish Elegance" with black and white, and hints of red, and so for flowers, I only wanted red roses.  I'll have very high centerpieces with chandelier pieces hanging down and a large pomander of red roses on top, my bouquet and my fiance's daughter's will be that same pomander shape with all red roses.  As for the comparison, the hotel wanted to charge $60 dollars each for pomanders with only 12-15 roses, and the outside vendor I'm working with will be doing pomanders with 35 roses for $40 each...even with the $350 outside vendor fee, it will be well worth it for the amount of flowers we will be getting.  And luckily, I will only be having my fiance's daughter as a junior bridesmaid and his son as the junior groomsmen so we don't have any other bouquet/boutonniere expenses.  The vendor I chose is Floreria Zazil--they have been awesome and were referred to me by a bride on the forum who used them.

Oh and we are planning to do the same as you guys...our private reception will go till 10, then we'll hit up the lobby bar for a bit before heading out the clubs on the strip :)

We did our rehearsal "dinner" cocktail hour on the beach. Minus the fact that is when we apparently all started spreading illness, it was wonderful. everyone kicked off their shoes, the bar set up was great, etc. The only concern we had was our older guests walking on sand, and they mostly sat at the tables and everyone came around to talk with them.

what did they chagre you for a rehersal "dinner"?

Hi! Sorry it took me so long to get back. Because of that $ vendor fee that can't be waived no matter how many flowers you get from the resort, I will just get all my flowers from my outside vendor. Initially I was going to have the chapel decorated by the resort. But if I'm paying the vendor fee anyway, I will just go with my vendor Floreira Riviera Maya. They charge way less than the resort. For example, if I got my entourage flowers from the resort I would be paying $1000 minumum. From Floreira, it is $600. Already that covers the vendor fee. I have heard the flowers from the resort aren't so great anyway. Total win if you get it from an outside vendor.

We have the same idea to hit the clubs afterwards. Are you planning on changing to a different dress? I don't really want to because wedding gowns are so expensive and I want to take advantage of every single minute with it but I'm wondering what other people are doing.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
