2013 Gran Caribe Real/ Royal Cancun Brides

Recommended Posts

I'm getting married March 13, 2013 and was told the same thing. If your ceremony and reception are not back to back they will charge you an extra. I think they know too well that if they didn't do this everyone would just say lets meet up at one of the bars and do it for free. I added the cocktail hour because I didn't want my reception to be from 5-8pm, I felt it would have ended too early. I figured if I'm going to pay for it either way, might as well have it be private.

Can I ask if you are doing a cocktail hour after the ceremony? Or are you just doing the private reception?!

The reason I ask is because on the contract we received from my WC, it says that All events are continuous and segmentation of events will result in a $400 charge. So we plan to have the ceremony at 4pm and would like to take some photos right after. We are not planning on having a cocktail and would like to have the reception start at 6:30pm. I don't understand why we would be charged a $400 fee when we are already paying for a private reception for 30 to 40 guests! Please let me know if I am reading this correctly. I asked Elsa about it and am waiting for her to respond. I just want to make sure if anyone else has had to do this....

Hi everyone,

While I was cleaning and organizing this weekend I decided to take a few pictures of some of the stuff I have so far for the wedding.  It's mostly just little extra stuff but I figured I would share  :)

First is my "Bride" robe from Victorias Secret

Next I got a few pairs of VS undies that I thought were cute

In hindsight, I would have waited to send out my save the date postcards until I knew for sure that the hotel released the rates for Feb 2013. Even though you can go to a certain month on the online booking calendar does not mean that the rates have posted. We just booked our travel two weeks ago and so far 6 of our guests have already reserved their rooms. We have to wait until late April/early May to book our airfare through Air Tran (they have reasonable direct flight to Cancun from my area). 322 days and counting!

Emily, yes we are using a travel agent. I have family and friends traveling from all over the US so it only made sense to use an agent who could cater to everyone's needs. And besides, it's lessen the stress on us having to answer a ton of questions. Our rates are higher being that we will be in Cancun in February during a holiday weekend, but we are okay with it. All your items look great so far.

I'm also using a travel agent but even though flight prices/times aren't out, we were still able to book our hotels and flights together. We have over 40 people who've booked so far. We sent out our save-the-dates as soon as we picked out the resort (around November), so I don't think it's too early to send out save-the-dates. It just gives your guests more time to save up their money and gives you a better idea of how many guests will come. I never thought that many people would book so far in advance, but people surprise you.

Quick update with what is going on with this one on my side. My TA is amazing and has reached out to the big guns on this, as she thinks it's a bit much as well.

Apparently, the group at Real resorts are having a meeting to discuss these issues since I am not the only one who has been having concerns, so they are meeting to address it and see what they can do. I shall keep you posted. If there are other brides who feel the same way I do, then make some noise and do yourselves a favour and contact the head office and let them know your concerns. If they are holding meetings to resolve these items, it can only benefit us!

I shall keep you posted with the verdict!

*fingers crossed*

My luxury package included the cocktail and reception already.  Because we are only doing a symbolic ceremony (I'm having my uncle who is a minsiter marry us in small ceremony 2/12/13 before we leave for Mexico) we are going to do "First Look Photos" before the ceremony so we can some photos with guests during the cocktail reception and then take some photos during the sunset.

There is a fee for everything, but hopefully you will not be charged the $400 fee for having the private reception start at 6:30.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
