2013 Gran Caribe Real/ Royal Cancun Brides

Ladies who have been to the GCR Is that pool really that small? My heart is really set on this resort but then I compare that pool to others and as much as I am in love with that chapel .. That might be a deal breaker.

We're exciting to hear from you after your site visit! Has Katia been accommodating to you at all?  It seems like everything is by the book and she is not being so lenient on anything.
She is pretty quick to respond but does stick to the books for almost everything which is quite a bummer. I will definitely give you more details about the visit as soon as I return and I will be taking lots of pictures to share. Hope she responds to you and accommodates, when is your wedding?

My plan is to get married at The Royal Cancun in November 2013!!! Does anybody here have any specific details about the best places on the resort for the ceremony/private reception? The beachfront chapel is stunning but I am not catholic so that's not a option for me :(. Any information on the photographer that the resort uses? Do they allow/charge for outside vendors?

I contemplated extending our reception by an hour, but it's quite expensive.  They charge a per guest fee per hour and the dj charges $150/hour.  Our reception ends at 7:30!!!  Which sounds awful, but so many people are coming for the vacation part too, that we decided to move the reception to the lobby bar and tip the bartenders well to give us good service the rest of the night.  I just refuse to spend more money for drinks at an all-inclusive hotel!  I would have just gotten married at home if I had knowe we were going to spend this much money.

I have been really disappointed about how rigid they are on their fees, timing, rules, etc.  You'd think there would be some negotiating, but there is NONE.  For instance, we have to pay $5/room to put the welcome bags in them for our guests.  We too had to pass on the chapel because my finace's anullment won't be completed in time, even though he's already started the process and we're both Catholic...  We also are paying the "discounted" outside vendor fee for my guests that are staying the WEEKEND at the hotel but are doing my photography.  So on top of everything else, it's $280 ($350 discounted by 20%) for my friends to take my wedding pictures.

Well, my wedding is on Saturday and we leave to head to GCR in 2 days, so I can let you girls know the details very soon!  They have two pools, so I wasn't real worried about one being small...not to mention the large beach they have....

HI!  I'm going to be getting married Aug 2013 at The Royal. We are going to be getting married in the gazebo and will be having our reception in The Real Club lounge on the second floor at The Royal. Our WC is Elsa. I was wondering if anyone has worked with her before or has had their reception in the Real Lounge and would be willing to share some pictures.

@ Christen Jean...Good Luck!! It's soo soon! Can't wait to hear all about it. I agree with you 100% on their lack of negotiating and flexibility on things. It's not fair to do to couples that are giving them a huge amount of business in addition to the actual wedding. It's very frustrating! I do hope everything works out how you dreamed of it though! Have so much fun and enjoy every moment!

@Kelly718, Elsa is my WC too. She is tough to work with at times. I've had to follow-up with her on things before she gets back to you. When she does answer it's not always the answer to the question you were asking or she gives the most minimal answer you usually have to follow-up anyway. I can't say I love working with her in all honesty but maybe things will be different for you! I think they don't really see a need to plan things so far in advance (as compared to us brides who want to)so there is never a sense of urgency on their end.

Wow! It sucks that you're wedding is this Saturday and instead of enjoying the whole process you're stressing about their rules and regulations! Ugh, I totally feel for you, myself and all the other brides that are feeling the same way.  I totally agree with you on everything! I can't believe that they're charging you a fee of $280.00 for your friends to take the pics when I'm sure you're already having to pay for them to be at the wedding and for their room.  I've had a hard time with dealing with them as well, since I can't justify how they try and add a fee for every single thing...... I'm also planning on doing welcome bags. Why are they charging you $5 per room?  Can't they just give them out when they check-in and you save the $5?

Regardless of all the stress, I hope you're able to enjoy every single moment of your wedding and that you have an amazing time! Can't wait to hear about it and see your pictures.

Alicia, I feel the same way. I thought it was only me!! Ive heard such positive feedback and just figured it was my luck! At first she was quick to respond however like you said she doesn't exactly answer your question. I'm currently waiting to sign a contract she sent I just need it updated with the correct info and its been a month since I've heard from her and Ive sent about 4 emails and posted to "our" wedding page. I'm sure everything will work out just fine as the wedding approaches....i hope!  Has anyone seen any pictures of the Real Club Lounge reception area?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
